Spring at Arundel

A couple of weeks ago I visited Arundel, a lovely medieval town located in the West Sussex.

The main attraction is the ancient Arundel Castle composed by high towers and strong walls. Among all the beautifull things to see I appreciated the formal english garden filled with flowers (tulips explosion), fountains, pergola and green oak obelisks.

The weather was perfect: a mild climate with a pleasant wind.

One of the oldest part of buildings is the Fitzalan Chapel containing the tombs of the Arundel Dukes since the XV centuries and it is still the burial place of the Dukes of Norfolk.

At the end I found a nice shop in Arundel city centre: a cute fabrics shop (so predictable).

Un paio di settimane fa ho visitato la medievale cittadina inglese di Arundel, nel West Sussex.

L'attrazione principale è stato il castello con le sue possenti mura e le alte torri. Ma la cosa che ho più apprezzato è stato l'incantevole giardino ornato di fontane e finte architetture in legno. Il tempo era perfetto: vento leggero e sole mite. Inoltre i fiori o meglio i tulipani erano nel pieno della loro fioritura e così ho potuto scattare tante foto super colorate.

Una delle parti più antiche del complesso di Arundel è la Fitzalan Chapel che custodisce le tombe dei duchi di Arundel dal 1390.

Infine tra tutti i negozietti della cittadina non ho potuto resistere alla tentazione di introfularmi in un negozio di stoffe.

All the world's a stage

Come ormai saprete da un paio di mesi mi sono stabilita in Inghilterra e qui oltre a portare avanti il Fedulab ho trovato un altro lavoro: sarta teatrale e assistente ai costumi del Groundlings Theatre di Portsmouth.

Praticamente lavoro a stretto contatto con Stephanie, la Wardrobe supervisor, e mi occupo di tenere in ordine il più possibile l'immensa sala, consigliare gli abbinamenti migliori per gli attori e riparare gli abiti.

Inutile dirvi che sono molto soddisfatta di questo part-time perché mi permette di stare a contatto con il mondo del tessuto, di imparare il gergo inglese tecnico-sartoriale e soprattutto riconoscere gli abiti in base al loro periodo storico. In Inghilterra infatti gli abiti sono suddivisi per stirpi monarchiche e quindi ho appreso ad esempio la differenze tra un abito Tudor, Elizabethian, Victorian, Empire, Georgian ecc.

Vedete l'abito stile anni '20 in seta e ricamato di strass? Bene l'ho completamente risistemato io ;) Quando l'ho preso tra le mani aveva tutti i ricami d perline e strass che cedevano, il mio lavoro è stato quello di fissarle di nuovo con ago e filo, ci ho messo tre settimane!

When I decide to go to the city centre I walk by a fabric shop. Everytime I promise myself "this time you don't need anything". It was not until I saw the shop window packed with beautiful fabrics and I just can't help loving it.
Well, this time I bought a lovely printed cotton with a lot of hummingbirds.
I created the lovely handbag Polina H. and I adorned it with a pretry lace. I'm very satisfied and I'm proud to put Polina on my online store.

Quando vado a fare la spesa in centro città mi capita spesso di passare davanti a un negozio di stoffe. Ogni volta mi prometto che non ci devo entrare ma appena vedo l'insegna e le fantastiche stoffe esposte mi sento attirata dentro tipo oggetto in prossimità di un buco nero.
Questa volta sono uscita dal negozio tutta soddisfatta con un tessuto rosa punteggiato di mille colibrì che volano circondati da romantici fiocchetti bianchi.
Con il mio nuovissimo cotone stampato ho così creato la spensierata borsa Polina H. L'ho abbellita anche con due pizzi bianchi ricamati con delicati motivi floreali sul bordo. Devo ammettere che sono molto soddisfatta del risultato e sono fiera di pubblicarla anche nel negozio online.

Jätski: inside a Victorian Glasshouse

Take a quiet afternoon, add a couple of friends and a small English Victorian greenhouse.
Stop and take a moment to admire with a cup of tea in your hand all the beautiful things that grow with no hurry in a greenhouse. You just might find new inspiration.
Thus was born the lovely handbag Jätski made with Scandinavian Marimekko "Jätski" fabric that recalls the colours of summer and the seaside.
As always I have entrusted to the online store Koti Design to procure Marimekko cotton prints.
With my friends Ainara and Gonul, we found a Victorian greenhouse and to our surprise we found inside buds ready to grow!

Prendi un tranquillo pomeriggio, un paio di amiche e una piccola serra vittoriana. Fermati un attimo ad ammirare la natura che cresce senza fretta con una tazza di te in mano e l'ispirazione arriverà da sola!
Così è nata la deliziosa borsa Jätski realizzata con il tessuto scandinavo Marimekko "Jätski" che richiama i colori dell'estate e del mare.
Come sempre mi sono affidata al negozio online Koti Design per procurarmi i pregiati tessuti Marimekko.
Con le mie amiche Ainara e Gonul ci siamo addentrate in una serra abbandonata e con nostra sorpresa abbiamo trovato all'interno dei germogli pronti a crescere.

This week is starting out well with these new awesome cotton print just arrived from Nelaro online fabric store. Now you have to imagine myself with shining eyes because everytime I'm handling new materials I go hog wild.

Inside the package I found three cottons:

Whiskers & Tails Lime Dogs designed by Robert Kaufman

What can I say? It's adorable because it depicts an English park where several dogs wagging their tails. I recognized on it a dachshund, a Scottish terrier and a Labrador. I will create a passport cover with and some dog bandanas.

Animal Party Too-Bright Summer Flowers by Robert Kaufman

A cotton very cheerful, filled with colorful flowers. It will be perfect to create new handbags.

Hearts & Flowers designed for the collection of Michael Miller

If you followed this blog you'll recognize the fabric I used for my new pillowcase.

La settimana si apre con questi meravigliosi cotoni stampati appena arrivati dal negozio online di tessuti Nelaro.

Immaginatemi con gli occhi che brillano perché ogni volta che ho sotto le mani nuovi tessuti vado in visibilio. Nel pacchettino erano contenuti tre cotoni:

Hello my name is totoro

Totoro is undoubtedly my favorite character from Hayao Miyazaki's filmography. For this reason I created a new felt brooch: Totoro available on http://fedulab.bigcartel.com/

I made both grey and blue version, but my favorite is the grey one.

If you buy one you will receive the brooch inside a lovely packaging, a green leaves pack. I used a green softie paper and I sewed the leaves nervature with my sewing machine.

Finally I stiched up with a button and I applied a cute tag.

Totoro è senza dubbio il mio personaggio preferito dei film di Hayao Miyazaki, per questo motivo ho creato una spilla tributo in feltro: Totoro disponibile nel mio negozio online http://fedulab.bigcartel.com/

Ho realizzato sia la versione grigia che quella blu, ma la mia preferita rimane quella grigia.

Se acquisterete uno spilla Totoro la riceverete all'interno di un delizioso packaging ovvero un pacchetto di foglie verdi.

Ho usato una morbida carta verde su cui ho riprodotto le nervature delle foglie con la mia macchina da cucire. Alla fine ho chiuso il fagottino con un paio di punti di cucito e ho applicato un la simpatica tag.

A me piacciono tantissimo e hanno già riscosso successo ;)

An unexpected gift

It’s always pleasant to get feedback or pictures from my customers, but I was overwhelmed when I received this package from a loyal belgian customer last week.

Nele sent me a lovely hand painted brooch of a mother holding her son (or daughter). I love it!

Besides the brooch I appreciated the handmade packaging and the collage with scraps paper.

What can I say? I’m always grateful for comments, but for someone to spend so much time creating such a wonderful thing for me I'm very thankful.

She also hand sewn on the paper a sentence: "Because I think you deserve a brooch too!" Obviously I pinned the brooch on my official bag! Thank You Nele again <3

E' sempre piacevole ricevere feedback o immagini dai miei clienti, ma la scorsa settimana sono stata colta di sorpresa quando ho ricevuto un pacchetto da una cara cliente belga a cui avevo recentemente spedito un ordine.

Nele mi ha così mandato una spilla dipinta a mano che ritrae una madre che tiene in braccio suo figlio (o figlia). I love it!

Oltre la spilla ho apprezzato la confezione fatta a mano e il collage con carta scarti.

Cosa posso dire? Sono sempre grata per l'attenzione che mi date, ma quando qualcuno trascorre così tanto tempo a creare una cosa così meravigliosa per me mi commuovo.

Sul foglio Nele ha anche cucito a mano una frase: "Perché penso che ti meriti anche tu una una spilla!" [Originale: "Because I think you deserve a brooch too!") Detto fatto e ovviamente ho appuntato la spilla sulla mia borsa ufficiale! Grazie Nele <3

Buon sabato! Proprio oggi ho deciso di pubblicare nel mio negozio online le romantiche borse in stoffa Juliet e Dee Dee perfette per la bella stagione. Ormai conoscete la mia dipendenza da cotoni stampati ;)

Per creare Juliet ho utilizzato il cotone stampato a cuori Hearts and Dots (mio recente acquisto su Abakhan) mentre per il bordo ho deciso di applicare il cotone anni '30 Kitty in Red di Chloe's Closet. La ciliegina sulla torta di Juliet è la spilla a fiocco creata con un simpatico bottone felino di Buttonmad.

So chic!

Dee Dee ha un carattere più spigliato e la sua forma la rende pratica in ogni occasione. Per questa tracolla ho deciso di evidenziare al massimo la bellezza del pattern Kitty in Red (acquistato su Seamstar) usando solo questo cotone aggiungendo pochi dettagli: un bordo nero, la tracolla e il bottone bianco.

Viva la semplicità!

Today I decided to upload online the romantic fabric handbags Juliet and Dee Dee perfectly suited for this spring.

I used the printed cotton Hearts and Dots (my recent purchase from Abakhan) to create Juliet while for its board I decided to apply the 30s cotton style Kitty in Red by Chloe's Closet. The icing on the cake for Juliet is the bow brooch with a cute button cat by Buttonmad.

So chic!

Dee Dee is a more breezy and its shape makes it very practical for every occasion. For this shoulder bag I decided to emphasize the beauty of Kitty in red (purchased from Seamstar). In fact I added only few details: a black shoulder strap and a white button.

Lazy Sunday with my new Pillowcase

Da quando vivo e lavoro in Uk le settimane volano e si stanno accumulando tante foto di creazioni e progetti che devo ancora pubblicare.

Iniziamo con la bellissima federa per cuscino che ho terminato ieri e che andrà di diritto ad abbellire la mia stanzetta inglese.

Per realizzarla ho utilizzato il romantico cotone "Hearts & Flowers" firmato da Micheal Miller e proveniente dal negozio ebay di Nelaro Fabrics. Questo cotone si è prestato benissimo alla forma del cuscino ed è inutile dirvi che la romantica stampa aiuta a dar colore e freschezza alla mia stanza da letto.

Since I live in England time flies and there are lot of projects to be publish on my blog.

For example yesterday I finished a beautiful pillowcase that will go to decorate my English bedroom.

I made it with the cute cotton "Hearts & Flowers" signed by Michael Miller I bought on the Nelaro Fabrics ebay shop. This cotton has been perfectly suitable for my pillowcase and onestly its romantic print adds colour and freshness to my bedroom.

We love dogs

Se mi seguite da un po' ormai saprete il mio debole per gli animali domestici in particolare per i cani e gatti.

La settimana scorsa ho realizzato per la bella Eli una borsa a tracolla a tema canino con chiusura a zip. Mi è stato richiesto appositamente di applicare sul fronte della borsa una zampa di cane e una frase: "Più persone conosco più apprezzo il mio cane".

Detto fatto e sapendo che il verde è il suo colore preferito ho usato una stoffa quadrettata di quel colore e vi ho così applicato sia la zampa che la scritta (dipinta a mano).

Ecco il risultato! Inutile dirvi che Eli ha apprezzato moltissimo la tracolla e per questo mi ha inviato una foto in compagnia del suo amatissimo Braulio (un giovane King Cavalier).

Il giorno che ho finito la sua borsa mi sono lasciata ispirare da un'altra stoffa a tema canino che era da un po' di tempo che girava nel mio laboratorio e così ho dato vita anche alla borsa tracolla con zip "Party Dogs", acquistabile nel negozio online http://fedulab.bigcartel.com

If you are a Fedulab-goer you know very well I am keen on pets (mainly dogs and cats).

Last week I made a custom doggy zipper messenger bag on Elisabetta's request. She wanted to apply on the front of the bag a dog's paw and a sentence: "More people I know, more I appreciate my dog."

Here you are! I knew that green is her favorite color so I used a checkered cloth of this color and I applied the paw and the sentence (hand painted) on the front of the bag.

Eli has appreciated her new bag and she has sent me this picture with her beloved Braulio (a King Cavalier). The day I've finished her bag I was inspired enough to create another bag and few days later this messenger bag was ready: "Dog Party" available in the online store.

Rieccomi!

Un po' alla volta posterò tutte le creazioni che ho preparato in queste settimane.

Oggi vi mostro uno dei miei ultimi esperimenti ovvero degli abitini da cocktail per Blythe. Conoscete la Blythe Doll? In breve si tratta di una bambola inventata negli anni '70 ma che è ritornata di moda negli ultimi anni. La sua particolarità risiede nelle infinite varianti che può assumere, infatti si possono modificare a piacere taglio di capelli, lunghezza, colore di capelli e di occhi.

Mi sono ispirata agli abiti da cocktail tipici degli anni '50, caratterizzati da un'ampia gonna e vita alta.

Il primo modello è realizzato con un tessuto a quadretti bianco e rosso a cui ho applicato in vita dei fiorellini.

Per il secondo invece ho scelto un pezzo di stoffa Sakura, con cui ho realizzato anche la borsa Sakura.

La modella ufficiale del mio esperimento micro-sartoriale è Ortensia, la bambola di Patty e a cui va il merito delle belle foto per questo post.

Fedulab is back!

During this week I will post all the creations I made a couple of weeks ago. Today I want to show you one of my recent experiment: two retro party dresses for Blythe.

Do you know who is the Blythe Doll? In short it is a doll created in the 70s and recentely has been in vogue. Its particularity is the infinite variations which you can obtain just changing its hairstyle, length, color of hair and eyes.

I was inspired by the typical '50s cocktail dresses, characterized by a high waist and wide skirt.

The first model is made with a red and white checkered fabric and I applied on the waist some flowers.

For the second one I chose a piece of Sakura fabric, with which I also made the bag Sakura.

The official model of my experiment in micro-tailoring is Ortensia, the Patty's doll and she has taken these handsome pictures for my blog.

Tra due ore ritorno a casa: treno, aereo, treno e via. Ieri notte ha lasciato la mia famiglia mio nonno dopo settimane di sofferenza. Per me è stata una persona fondamentale che ha forgiato il mio carattere e il mio modo di pormi nella vita. Generosa, forte e vitale.

Quello che è certo è che lui rivive nei miei ricordi, nel mio modo d'essere e soprattutto nel mio nome.

Last night my grandfather passed away and now I rush off to get home again (in Italy). It is really difficult watching loved ones suffer but now it's over. He will always be with me in my memories, my way of being and especially in my name. I know dying is a part of living but it is really sad.

Quante cose si possono creare da un singolo pezzo di stoffa?

A mio parere tante! In questo post vi mostro cosa sono riuscita a creare con il tessuto "Sweet Treats Cupcakes" disegnato da Michael Miller e che ho acquistato nel negozio online inglese Nelaro Fabrics (eBay).

Partendo dal presupposto che il tessuto è davvero molto bello e primaverile, ho potuto creare vari oggetti e soddisfare le richieste personalizzate delle mie clienti.

Con la stoffa cupcake ho creato un porta iPad 2, un simpatico astuccio (trousse) e la borsa Delicia (sold out nel mio negozio online!).

Fino a qui tutte cose normali, finché un'infermiera pediatrica mi ha domandato se potevo crearle una cuffia da indossare in ospedale...e così è nata la cuffia cupcake! Sicuramente i bambini in ospedale la troveranno più simpatica e magari si faranno fare le punture con più serenità.

How many things can be created from a single yard of fabric?

I think a lot and in this post I will show you what I created with the fabric "Sweet Treats Cupcakes" designed by Michael Miller and purchased from the Nelaro Fabrics online store (eBay).

The fabric is really nice and cute so I made various objects and I met the demands of my own clients. With "Sweet Treats Cupcakes" I created a cute iPad 2 case (sleeve), a nice zippered case (cosmetic bag) and the tote bag Delicia (sold out on my estore!).

Finally I created an unusual thing: a pediatric nurse asked me if I could create a scrub hat to wear in the hospital ... and so I made the cupcake scrub hat! Surely children in the hospital will find it funny.

Aprile si è aperto nel migliore dei modi: finalmente ho ricevuto tre bellissime stoffe dal negozio online inglese Seamstar con cui creerò nuove borse e astucci estivi.

Su Seamstar avevo a disposizione una vasta scelta di stoffe primaverili dei migliori designer tessili ma alla fine ho puntato su queste tre stoffe.

Per prima ho scelto "Kitty in Red" disegnata da Chloe's Closet perché richiama il tema del gatto e soprattutto perché rimanda allo stile anni '30: colori nitidi, immagini semplici e fantasia a pois.

Dallo stile spensierato di "Kitty in Red" si passa alla fantasia contagiosa di Alexander Henry e della sua "Leaf in Red" (dalla collezione "Griffith Park"). Sul cotone si intrecciano rami di vite con foglie colorate che sfumano dal rosa al vinaccia.

Infine che cosa si ottiene se si prende qualche agrume, qualche ortaggi ed utensili da cucina e li si vuole mischiare con una punta di stile retro? Ecco che nasce il cotone "Veggies" creato da Maude Asbury (collezione "Kitchy Kitchen") caratterizzato da colori brillanti, disegni nitidi e quella punta di grafica anni '60 che amo tanto.

Per questo motivo ho subito "aggredito" questo cotone e ho confezionato una simpatica borsa estiva: VEGGIE che sicuramente andrà a ruba nel mio Bigcartel.

Ora non mi resta che lavorare sulle altre stoffe ^_^

April has started in the best way: I received three beautiful fabrics from the online store Seamstar with which I will create new summer bags and cute cases. On Seamstar you can find a wide range of seasonal fabrics from best designers and in the end I focused my attention on these three cottons.

First, I chose "Kitty in Red" designed by Chloe's Closet because she recalls the theme of the cat, represents a longing for the past in both colour and pattern like the '30s style: vibrant colors, simple images and polka dots prints.

From the carefree style of "Kitty in Red" we can jump to the contagious fancy of Alexander Henry and his "Leaf in Red" (from the collection "Griffith Park"). It features vines and leaves, in a creative wavy design where the pink shades off into deep purple.

What do you get if you take some citrus, some vegetables and kitchen utensils, and and give them a touch of retro style? You get the cotton "Veggies" created by Maude Asbury (collection "Kitchen Kitchy") characterized by bright colors, clear drawings and graphics that recall the '60s.

I love this cotton and for this reason I have "attacked" it and created a nice summer bag: VEGGIE. It sells like hot cakes on my Bigcartel.

Love Southsea Sunday Market and a cup of tea from the vintage tea room

Il "Love Sunday Market" si tiene la prima domenica di ogni mese presso il porto antico di Portsmouth, così quest'oggi ho convinto Alba e Riccardo a fare un giro al mercatino dell'artigianato locale.

Un bel sole scaldava la "Square tower" dove erano collocati dei simpatici stand che vendevano sia oggetti vintage che handmade. Il mercatino si estendeva anche all'interno della torre del porto dove numerosi altri artigiani vendevano i propri prodotti.

Una sala del pian terreno della torre è stato adibita a tea room, e per la precisione si trattava di una tea room non proprio convenzionale: le tazze e le teiere erano tutte diverse, ogni tavolo era addobbato con giochi, riviste e oggetti vintage.

Io vado matta per queste cose!

Nella tea room si respirava un'atmosfera molto amichevole e soprattutto il te con i dolcetti erano deliziosi. Dopo esserci riscaldati col te abbiamo approfittato del bel tempo primaverile per fare un giretto all'aperto mentre le inglesi evidentemente percepiscono il clima mite come estivo. ahahha!

Today Alba, Riccardo and I went to the ‘Love Southsea’ Sunday Market. This market takes place at the Square Tower in the Old Portsmouth on the First Sunday in the Month and supports the local businesses and crafters (check out the site http://www.lovesouthsea.co.uk/).

We have found many stands that offered a lot of handmade and colorful stuff like pillows, cases, necklaces and decorations. There is a lovely, great and vintage tea room inside the tower and we have a pot of tea and slice of tasty cake.

I love this place 'cause each cup is different and each table is decorated differently with vintage games, magazines and cute objects. In the tea room the atmosphere was friendly and the the pastries were delicious.

After drinking tea we make a walk on the beach(taking advantage of the beautiful sunny day).

Tutorial: diy brooch packaging

Dopo avervi mostrato le ultime spille che ho creato, oggi vi propongo un piccolo tutorial sul come realizzare dei simpatici packaging per confezionare piccoli oggetti, io ad esempio ho impacchettato delle spille che ho spedito alle mie clienti.

Per formare le confezioni ho utilizzato dei ritagli di stoffa, carta, un foglio di plastica e del filo.

Mi è subito piaciuto questo packaging perché permette di creare un simpatico contenitore e consente di riutilizzare i vostri ritagli di stoffa e carta/cartone.

- Prima di tutto sistemate il tessuto tra la carta e il foglio di plastica

- Selezionate il punto zig-zag e iniziate a cucire assieme gli strati.

- Cucite i primi tre lati e al quarto inserite la spilla in modo da chiuderla.

- Rifinite il bordo del packaging ritagliando l'eccesso.

...e voilà! Ora non resta che divertirsi e scartare la spilla ^_^

After the post a little while ago about my latest brooches, today I'd go with one small tutorial for a nice packaging for brooches, that I sent to my customers.
I used scraps of fabrics, paper, a plastic sheet and the thread. I immediately liked this packaging because it's easy and looks rally effective!

- First, place the fabric between paper and plastic sheet
- Select the zigzag stitch and start sewing the layers together.
- Sew the three sides and on the fourth put the pin and close it.
- Now cut the excess of packaging.

and ... voila! Now you just have fun and discard the badge ^ _ ^
