Oggi vi voglio parlare di un'illustratrice inglese di grande talento: Sarah Young.

Sono follemente innamorata delle sue illustrazioni, dei dettagli sorprendenti nei suoi disegni e in particolare del suo stile inconfondibile ispirato al mondo burlesque, all'universo circense e dalle favole russe, oltre che dal mondo mitologico.

La sua serigrafia è assolutamente meravigliosa!

Blue Bessie and Blue Bitsy

Dall'idea buttata su carta alla borsa finita: ecco il processo che più spesso accompagna la creazione delle mie borse.Tempo fa avevo appuntato sul mio moleskine delle idee per due borse col tema del gatto e la settimana scorsa le ho terminate.

Per entrambe ho usato un tessuto blu con grossi pois bianchi a cui ho applicato i musi di gatto.

La borsa Blue Bessie riporta la gatta Bessie che pensa a un cuoricino e magia... la nuvoletta è in realtà una taschina!

Invece la gatta Bitsy aspetta ancora che gli regali un bel papillon così da completarla come avevo previsto nel disegno per Blue Bitsy.Le borse sono disponibili nel negozio online http://www.fedulab.bigcartel.com/.

Starting from an idea drew on the paper since the complete bag: here is the process that most often accompanies the creation of my bags.A month ago I pinned on my moleskine the ideas of two bags with the theme of cat and the last week I created them.

For both I used a blue cotton with large white polka dots for background and then I have applied the cat faces.

The bag Blue Bessie hosts Bessie the cat who thinks a little heart and... as if by magic actually the cloud is a snap pocket!

Instead Bitsy the cat is still waiting for a nice bow so I can complete the bag as I predicted in the design of Blue Bitsy.

Graduation day

Finalmente posso mettere la parola fine al mio capitolo universitario: lunedì mi sono laureata a Ca' Foscari.

Mi sono divertita tantissimo in compagnia delle amiche che mi hanno accompagnato prima a Venezia e poi con tutti gli amici che mi aspettavano a Padova alla festa.

Devo essere sincera: appena uscita dall'aula della discussione mi sono emozionata (vedi ultima foto) ma dopo essermi scolata mezza bottiglia d'acqua siamo stati in giro a festeggiare.

Il voto? Non lo vedete scritto sulla fronte? hihi

Insomma è stato molto bello ed anche se mancavano alla mia laurea due care persone, sentivo vicino a me la loro presenza.

E ora comincia il bello! ^_^

Now I can finally write "the end" on my university chapter: last Monday I graduated at Ca 'Foscari of Venice (Italy).

I had lots of fun with my friends during the day in Venice and at the party-night in Padova.I must be honest: just out of the classroom discussion I was touched (see last photo) but after a while we were around Venice to celebrate the day.

The vote? Don't you see it written my foreheads? hihi (110/110)It was a very nice day and although I missed two dear people at my party, I could feel their presence near me.

And now the fun begins... ^_^

Buon sabato a tutti.

Sono tornata temporaneamente in Italia per portare a termine il mio ultimo impegno universitario: lunedì finalmente discuto la tesi a Venezia (sicuramente dedicherò un post per farvi vedere cosa ho studiato).

Oggi però vorrei presentarvi Leah Reena Goren, una bravissima illustratrice newyorkese specializzata nella creazione di pattern per sete. Avendo un debole per i tessuti stampati mi sono subito innamorata del suo stile allegro ma con un gusto retrò.

Le sue stampe si caratterizzano per i colori pastello, la fantasia floreale e l'astrattismo che ricorda un po' gli acquarelli del primissimo Kandinsky.

Leah utilizza le sete per realizzare delicati foulard e abiti primaverili.

Capucine Amorosa

Ieri ho voluto confezionare due borse molto colorate ed allegre: Capucine e Amorosa.

L'avvicinarsi della primavera mi permette di giocare e sperimentare accostamenti vivaci in tono con il cambio di stagione.

Capucine è una deliziosa borsa creata con il tessuto giapponese Carousel Stripe White di Kayo Horaguchi che richiama il mondo delle giostre, dei cavallini e della musica. Dove l'ho presa? Ovvio dal sito inglese Fancy Moon. I toni del lilla richiamano il prato fiorito che incornicia la striscia del tessuto giapponese.

Amorosa è una borsa molto spiritosa e vivace, creata con il tessuto giapponese Kokka Strawberry Patch. Per renderla più primaverile ho applicato un pizzo di cotone rosa.

Davvero carine!

Yesterday I made two cute and colorful bags: Capucine and Amorosa.

For the spring collection I can play with cheerful and kawaii fabrics.

Capucine is a delightful bag created with the japanese fabric "White Stripe Carousel" by Kayo Horaguchi that recalls the world of the carousel, the horses and the music. Where it come from? Obvious from the online shop Fancy Moon.

Amorosa is a very witty and lively bag, created by Japanese fabric Kokka Strawberry Patch. To make it more vernal I applied a pink cotton lace.Really cute!

Oggi un post veloce: vi pubblico le ultime custodie per cellulari che ho realizzato su commissione.

Il primo dal tono prettamente primaverile, con un tessuto floreale molto colorato, l'altro più deciso e rock con teschi e rose.Entrambi sono foderati e hanno una comoda tasca per gli auricolari o per inserire tessere o bigliettini.

Unikko Mini for a bag

Era da un po' di tempo che bramavo di realizzare una bella borsa con i tessuti finlandesi di Marimekko e finalmente ce l'ho fatta!

Il tessuto Unikko Mini, proveniente dal negozio online Koti Design-house di Perugia, è il protagonista della borsa Eutalia che richiama il gusto colorato e spensierato degli anni Sessanta.Proprio negli anni Sessanta, precisamente nel 1964, Maija Isola diede vita ad una collezione di pattern realizzata a motivi floreali per Marimekko.

Il pezzo di stoffa in mio possesso richiama i colori caldi del magenta, dell'arancio e del giallo che ben si combinano con il bordo rosso, infatti a gennaio avevo sperimentato questa combinazione per un copri pc.

Eutalia is a spring bag made with the stunning Marimekko's Unikko Mini cotton (from the online store of Koti design-house).

The Unikko pattern is Marimekko’s most iconic design and recall the 60's spirit. Maija Isola created “Unikko” in 1964 with a lot of flowers in different warm colors like yellow, orange and magenta.

I mixed this piece of fabric with a red band and I'm really satisfied with the result.Last January I proved this combination for a cute cover laptop.

Cinderella Snap Wallet

Hey!La settimana scorsa Laura mi ha commissionato di crearle un portafoglio abbastanza grande da contenere carta d'identità, patente, carte di fedeltà e tessere varie.

Ho usato il cotone giapponese Kokka "Cinderella Lilac" (dal sito Fancy Moon) per l'esterno e le tasche, mentre per l'interno un cotone stampato.

Di seguito ho aggiunto le foto del working progress, così da far capire come ho operato.Infine ho chiuso il portafoglio con un bottone a pressione.

Laura ha subito apprezzato il lavoro e i disegni sul tessuto che richiamano la favola di Cenerentola (orologi, carrozze, castelli e scarpette).

Davvero fiabesco!

Last week, Laura asked me to make a wallet to hold an identity card, driving license, loyalty cards and mixed cards.

I used cotton Japanese Kokka "Lilac Cinderella" (from Fancy Moon site) to the outside and pockets, while the interior was made up of a printed cotton.Below I have added photos of the working progress, so you can understand how I worked. In the end I closed the wallet with a snap.

Laura has been enjoyed this creation and she loves the fabric that recall the fairy tale of Cinderella (watches, cars, castles and shoes). Really fabulous!

Celebrating the 200th birthday of Charles Dickens

Oggi si festeggia in tutto il mondo il bicentenario della nascita del grande Charles Dickens. Il famoso scrittore di A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist e David Copperfield viene oggi celebrato in tutto il mondo ma qui a Portsmouth la ricorrenza è particolarmente sentita perché fu proprio in questa cittadina che il 7 febbraio 1812 nacque Dickens.

Mi sono così recata a Old Commercial Road dove si trova la casa museo di Dickens e mi sono lasciata attrarre da clima gioioso che aleggiava sulla via.Mentre aspettavo in coda per visitare la casa-museo ho notato una certa ressa attorno ad un personaggio assalito da flash e telecamere, dopo aver ascoltato i discorsi dei passanti ho capito che il museo era appena stato visitato da un importante attore inglese che ha recitato anche nel film di Oliver Twist (che udito!).

Today the world celebrates Dickens's birthday. To mark the bicentenary day on 7 February, a fantastic range of celebrations will take place all over the world and also here, in Portsmouth.

Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth on 7 February 1812 in what is now the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum on Old Commercial Road.

I went there to visit the Museum and admire the local celebration.

Allora notato proprio niente di nuovo nel mio blog?

L'ho semplicemente rivoluzionato! Ho usato le bellissime grafiche che ha creato per me Sara Tononi, una bravissima graphic designer che vive a Sydney (linkedIn).

Gufi, stoffe e nastrini ora allegramente colorano il mio nuovissimo blog. Ci voleva un re-style del blog!

Parallelamente sono tornata in piena fase produttiva con la mia macchina da cucire e in questi giorni sto sfornando sempre nuove borse.Mi sono lasciata ispirate dal tessuto "Thunder flowers" di Alexander Henry per creare due simpatiche tracolle con chiusura a zip: Ninja girls e Pink Ninja.

Trovo molto simpatico il motivo delle ninja che saltano in aria su uno sfondo rosso.Ispirato al mondo anime giapponese la stoffa che ho acquistato dal sito online Fancymoon riprende fiori di ciliegio, canne di bambu e scritte nipponiche.Le borse sono disponibili nel mio negozio online.

Meanwhile I'm in full production of new bags with my sewing machine.I took inspiration from "Thunder flowera" fabric by Alexander Henry to create two little messenger bag with zipper: "Ninja girls" and "Pink Ninja". I find it very funny the ninja jumping anime girls on a red background.

Inspired by the Japanese anime world, the cotton (I bought from the online site Fancymoon) resumes cherry blossoms, bamboo canes and written Nipponese.

Creative San Valentino Contest

Hey! Stamattina mi sono messa al lavoro su una borsa basata sul tema di S. Valentino che ho creato appositamente per partecipare al contest "Creative San Valentino", indetto da Aurifil e Bernina.

Ho ben pensato di applicare sul tessuto di cotone a cuori una sagoma a forma di gatto che stringe un cuore e quindi l'ho applicato con il filato Aurifil Makò Ne #4656 che sfuma dal marrone terra di siena al beige, ho poi applicato i bottoni come occhi e disegnato il sorriso.Per richiamare il tema del gatto ho inoltre applicato alla chiusura il bottone di Buttonmad a forma di gatto.

I dettagli sono fondamentali, come dicono le grande maestre di cucito.

Sakura and Odoriko

Eccomi di nuovo!

Con grande gioia vi mostro le mie prime due borse prodotte direttamente dalla mia nuova postazione inglese: Sakura e Odoriko (disponibili nel mio negozio online).

La stoffa che ho usato per la borsa Sakura viene direttamente dal Giappone e riporta su sfondo nero i fiori di ciliegio che sfumano dal rosa al bianco. Una stoffa davvero delicata.

Mentre per la borsa Odoriko ho unito alla stoffa sakura un pezzo di tessuto Odoriko Dancers di Alexander Henry (acquistata dal sito Fancy Moon). Il risultato è venuto molto bene perché i fiori di ciliegio ben si intonano con i motivi d'orati della stoffa con i danzatori in kimono.La collezione primaverile Fedulab sta prendendo piede.

Here I am again with my newest two bags directly created from my new English station: Sakura and Odoriko (available in my online store).

The fabric I used for Sakura bags comes from Japan and reports on cherry blossoms where the pink shades off into white. A very delicate fabric for a nice handmade bag.

For Odoriko bag I put together the sakura's fabric with a piece Alexander Henry's Odoriko Dancers (purchased from Fancy Moon). The final result outcame very well because the cherry blossoms' fabric well suited with the Japanese dancers of the last fabric.

The spring collection Fedulab is catching on...stay tuned.

London: Natural History Museum and Chinese New Year

We spent a lovely day in London last sunday. First we visited the Natural History Museum: it was my first time there and I was really excited to meet dinosaurs and all the animals from the smallest invertebrate to the giant blue whale.

Then we went into Chinatown where we find the Chinese New Year of the Dragon's parade. It was really nice admire the Lion Dances pass through the streets to bring good luck to the households and shops they visited. I love the lamps and decoration of London’s West End.

Definately I spent a nice sunday!

Finalmente si è conclusa una settimana davvero pregna di notizie e stravolgimenti.In breve ho consegnato la tesi che sancisce la conclusione dei miei studi presso la Ca' Foscari di Venezia ma sono ripartita per Milano con un dolore nel cuore per la perdita di un caro in famiglia, che ha annerito la gioia per aver terminato la tesi.Sono ancora un po' frastornata da questi eventi ma tra alti e bassi non vedo l'ora che una nuova settimana abbia inizio.

Ho trovato il tempo di scansionare alcune pagine del mio prezioso Moleskine così potete vedere come prendono vita le mie idee.
Mi piace conservare pezzi delle più belle stoffe che ho usato, come "Eiffel Tower" di Micheal Miller (acquistata nel negozio online Fancy Moon), oppure "Unikko Mini" di Marimekko (selezionata dal negozio online Koti Design-House). Presto realizzerò la borsa del gatto col papillon, mentre devo ancora decidere come usare il tema del cavallo a dondolo.In montagna mi sono divertita a colorare foglie d'acero con la tecnica del frottage, mentre ad Urbino ho disegnato il prospetto della chiesa mentre aspettavo di entrare alla galleria nazionale.

The good week-news is that i finished my thesis, the bad one is that i lost a family member. Between highs and lows I'm happy for the week has to come.

Dall'Italia all'Inghilterra

Eccomi qui a raccontarvi il mio pazzo viaggio in Uk con una Panda carichissima.

Pochi dati: 1300km x 21 ore + 4 nazioni attraversate.

Partenza 1 gennaio ore 11:00 da Colico, arrivo a Portsmouth alle 6:00 di mattina (5:00 ora inglese).

Il viaggio è andato molto bene, nessuno c'ha fermato, pochissimo traffico ma dopo essere stata sveglia per 21 ore di fila sono ancora un po' intontita.Siamo partiti con un bel sole che ci ha accompagnato fino alla frontiera svizzera sul Lago di Como. Col pandino abbiamo attraversato tutta la Svizzera da Lugano a Basilea via San Gottardo.

Dopo Basilea siamo entrati in Francia e qui è iniziato il pezzo più lungo e stancante del viaggio. Fino in Svizzera ci eravamo goduti il panorama ma con il calare del sole il viaggio in autostrada si è fatto davvero pesante. Tra l'altro siamo incappati in una tempesta di mare sulla strada per Calais: sono stati due minuti lunghissimi. Che ridere!

Poi a Calais abbiamo preso il traghetto e finalmente siamo sbarcati a Dover. Sul traghetto abbiamo dormicchiato nonostante la musica della sala e un signorotto polacco che russava tantissimo.

Gli ultimi 200km prima di arrivare a Portsmouth sono stati davvero estremi, entrambi eravamo stanchissimi ma ci siamo fatti forza e abbiamo tirato fino a casa. Che gioia vedere da lontano la Spinnaker Tower alle sei di mattina.

Nell'ultima foto infatti si vede quanto eravamo consumati!

Oggi ho riposato ma questa settimana devo sistemare tutte le cose che abbiamo caricato in macchina.

Kawaii KoKKa neKo

Uno dei temi più ricorrenti nei tessuti giapponesi Kokka è il gatto.Quello in mio possesso è davvero carino: gattini neri alti 1,2cm su sfondo rosa antico. Me lo ha portato direttamente dal Giappone una mia cara amica Wagashi (per la serie ecco come farmi felice in due mosse).Dato che i gattini sono davvero piccoli questa stoffa è perfetta per confezionare piccole creazioni.

Ultimamente ho fatto due morbide cover iPhone ed astucci.

It was bought from Japan by my dear friend Wagashi (here is how to make me happy!).The kittens are really small and this fabric is perfect for a small creations: I made two soft covers iPhone and some cases.

Unikko Mini è stata inaugurata!

Nello scorso post vi ho parlato dell'arrivo delle meravigliose stoffe nordiche Marimekko dal negozio online di Perugia Koti Design-House e ora vi mostro come ho iniziato a impiegarle.

Che onore sminuzzare per la prima volta un tessuto Marimekko.Per una commissione di una cover pc ho usato la coloratissima Unikko Mini miscelandola con un tessuto rosso magenta che riprendesse il colore di un fiore.

La prossima stagione primaverile produrrò sicuramente delle borse con questo tessuto davvero allegro.

Il mio consiglio per chi volesse usare queste stoffe è di spezzare la ricchezza del pattern con un colore che richiami la palette di colori usati nel motivo, soprattutto nella creazione di un oggetto grande come una borsa o una cover pc.Poi siete ovviamente liberi di sbizzarrirvi e sperimentare quanto volete!

Guardate la premier Marimekko per la primavera/estate 2012 [gli abiti sono davvero belli, ma vedete anche voi che le modelle fanno "fatica" a camminare scalze?]

In the last post I talked about the arrival of a pack with some beautiful northern Marimekko fabrics from online shop Koti-House Design and now I wanna show you how I began to use one in particular.

It was an honor for me cut for the first time a Marimekko fabric: Unikko Mini.For a customer I made a cover PC made up with a piece of Unikko Mini and a magenta fabric that married the color of a flower.For the next spring's collection I'll make some bags with this fabric very happy.

My advice to those who wishing to use these materials is to break the rich pattern with a color taking from the palette of the pattern, especially in the large size creations like a bag or a computer cover.

Then you are obviously free to do what you like!

Appena ho visto il negozio online della giovane designer berlinese Andrea è stato amore a prima vista.Così mi sono interessata ai suoi lavori e sono diventata una vera fan delle creazioni Citoyennes de Berlin.Andrea ama rielaborare grafiche vintage anni Sessanta (vedi gli adesivi con la mela) e anche i temi floreali (ispirati alla pittura nordica settecentesca).Il mio preferito in assoluto rimane il tema dell'uccellino sulla spilla e non vedo l'ora di appendere in casa le tre cartoline con il cerbiatto con le ali, il pettirosso e la lepre con papillon. Nelle foto si vede solo una piccola selezione dei suoi oggetti, vi consiglio di visitare il suo blog per respirare un po' di fresca aria berlinese e ammirare tutti suoi lavori.

Era da tantissimo tempo che sognavo di usare le stoffe Marimekko per le mie creazioni, poi un giorno scopro che esiste il negozio online di Koti DesignHouse e i sogni diventano realtà.

A Perugia Angela e Riccardo hanno aperto da poco più di un anno il negozio Koti specializzato nella vendita di complementi d'arredo del miglior design scandinavo e parallelamente gestiscono in modo impeccabile anche il negozio online.

Marimekko, Iittala e Tonfisk sono solo alcuni brand a cui Koti si affida per la scelta dei prodotti quali tazze, piatti, lampade, tessuti e giochi.

Sul sito tra le varie categorie disponibili ovviamente mi sono persa nella sezione tessuti Marimekko di cui hanno una bella e fornita scelta.

Mancano solo 19 giorni a natale e a breve dovremmo acquistare i fatidici regali natalizi.

Oltre ad avere il tipico problema del "cosa" regalare da un paio di anni sono assillata dal "come" presentare. Mi spiego: vorrei trovare una soluzione carina per impacchettare i regali in modo creativo e insolito.

Per distrarmi e rilassarmi un po' dalla stesura della tesi ho iniziato un nuovo mini progetto di ricamo.

Dopo aver ricamato un gufo, ho tratto dai miei temi preferiti il disegno per il mio nuovo lavoretto. Per il fondo ho usato un cotone arancione e ho selezionato una palette di cinque colori=fili da utilizzare.

Non sarà un lavoro velocissimo perché ho deciso di usare il punto pieno (a doppio ripasso) e quindi ci vuole un po' più di pazienza.

Appena l'avrò terminato vi farò vedere i risultati; intanto mi rilasso ascoltando i Boards of Canada.

I started a new mini embroidery project, while distracting myself a little from thesis.

I took inspiration from my favorite themes for this work. For the background I used an orange cotton and I selected a palette of five colors = threads to use.

It will not be a fast work because I'm using the satin stitch to cover all the sections.

Spesso per realizzare un'idea carina basta davvero poco e nel mio caso è bastato avere sottomano un pezzo di cotone arancione e un filo blu (meglio se di qualità, io ho usato infatti un filato 100% cotone egiziano Aurifil).

Volevo ricamare qualcosa di speciale e da incorniciare così sono andata sul sicuro: un gufo.

Ho sfogliato il mio moleskine "breviario dell'ispirazione" e ho ripreso un disegno con un gufo dalle ali aperte. Poi ho modificato gli occhi e mi sono messa all'opera.

Per dare ritmo al ricamo ho usato diversi spessori al punto e ho aggiunto solo un tocco di filo beige per il dettaglio delle ali.

Sono davvero soddisfatta del risultato e soprattutto mi piace tantissimo l'effetto lucente che assume il filato di cotone blu quando è colpito dalla luce.

Sometime you need just a few things to make a nice needlework. For me it was enough to have a piece of orance cotton and blue cotton thread (I used a 100% egyptian cotton by Aurifil ).

I need to stitch something special on it so I kept a safe subject: an owl.

I consulted my moleskine "compendium of inspiration" and I took a picture with an owl with open wings. Then I changed its eyes and I started to work.

I gave rhythm to embroidery by using a different thickness to the points and I added just a touch of beige thread on the wings' detail.

I'm really satisfied about the result and most of all I like the bright effect that assume the blue cotton thread when it's struck by light.

What a mawkish girl!

Tra tutti quelli esposti ho scelto un bellissimo foulard di seta a campi verdi delimitati di nero, l'ho ben guardato e dopo di che ho esclamato: "ovviamente Pucci!". E avevo ragione (per conferma ho cercato il cartellino anche se non avevo dubbi).

Stavo passeggiando in libreria nella sezione crafts e d'un tratto mi compare in bella vista questo libro.OMG ho esclamato e subito mi sono messa a sfogliare Knit Your Own Royal Wedding di Fiona Goble.

Il libro è uscito in Uk a inizio Marzo e subito è diventato un must per chiunque non avesse ricevuto il famoso invito alla cerimonia reale.

Ci sono tutti i personaggi da creare: la regina, Carlo, Camilla, William, Kate ed Henry (manca Pippa ma d'altronde prima del matrimonio nessuno se la filava!)

Lo trovo davvero simpatico, con quella punta di kitsch che mi piace tanto.

p.s. C'è anche da fare a maglia il cagnolino reale!

I was walking in a bookstore and I fall in love qith this book. OMG I exclaimed, and immediately I started to browse Knit Your Own Royal Wedding by Fiona Goble.

The book was released in the UK in early March and immediately became a must for anyone who had not received the famous invitation to the royal wedding.

Fiona Goble's 64-page manual gives the patterns that enable you all to knit your own Royal Family: the queen, Charles, Camilla, William, Henry and Kate (Pippa missing 'cause before the wedding no one knew her!)

I find this book really nice, with that touch of kitsch that I love so much.

Sono tornata dal mio breve soggiorno in Uk e ieri notte mi sono messa a terminare delle creazioni che avevo lasciato in sospeso.

Mi piace molto creare di notte accompagnata da una buona musica.

Verso mezzanotte ho portato a termine quattro astucci: con tessuto Día de Muertos (da Fancy Moon), con tessuto inglese Skulls'n'roses, con cotone giapponese Kokka Neko e con tessuto Kokka patchwork. Quest'ultimo sarà protagonista del prossimo giveaway.

Approposito di giveaway...state partecipando a quello di Fashion what else per vincere la deliziosa tracolla Pois Eiffel?

Infine mi sono messa a creare con i pannolenci colorati delle spille a forma di sushi usando i pregiati filati di Aurifil. Ho appurato l'abissale differenza tra l'uso di un filo medio-buono e di uno ottimo. Sarà forse per questo che questi filati sono usati nell'alta moda?

Hey, i'm just come back from UK and last night I finished some cute creations for my customers.

I really like to create in the night when I accompanied by good music.

Around midnight I finished four cases with Día de Muertos fabric (from Fancymoon), with English Skulls'n'roses fabric and with Kokka's cotton neko and patchwork. The latter will be lead on the next giveaway (stay tuned!).

Populous - My Winter Vacation

Green Portchester

Con il favore di un mite pomeriggio domenicale siamo andati a visitare il castello romano/normanno di Portchester nella baia di Portsmouth. Che dire? Siamo stati avvolti dal vivissimo verde dei prati che ben si sposava con il grigio delle rovine del castello.
Per salire sulla cima della torre abbiamo percorso le strettissime scale a spirale (che vertigini!) che ci hanno condotto sul tetto da dove abbiamo ammirato il panorama della baia inglese.
Così abbiamo passato una tranquilla domenica pomeriggio passeggiando tra ruderi e cottage.

We walked through green and greener fields...a lovely Sunday.

Three Mustache scarf

Brrr...siamo a novembre e giustamente si inizia a sentire quel freddino tale per cui se non hai una giacca e una sciarpa non puoi uscire. Il momento buono per realizzare delle sciarpe arriva quando mi giunge voce che la maggior parte dei miei amici inizia ad accusare sintomi influenzali.

Così seguendo la "domanda di mercato" ho preparato delle sciarpe di colore rosso a cui ho applicato tre baffi al fondo. All'estremo opposto della sciarpa ho invece cucito un cuore rosa di peluche in cui ho inserito la mia firma dipinta a mano.

Mi piace molto questa sciarpa spiritosa e l'ho chiamata semplicemente

Winter here we come! You can't go out without wearing a scarf and a jacket.

A good time to make scarves comes when my friends starting to be sick, I simply followed the "market demand" and I made the red scarves with three mustache applied to the bottom. At the opposite end of the scarf I hand stitched a cute pink heart where I put my hand-painted signature.

I really like this scarf and it's called Three Mustache.

I designer di Kokka si sono ispirati ai favolosi padiglioni sorti in Europa e in America tra Ottocento e Novecento, unendo poi elementi tratti dal mondo del circo e dei parchi di divertimento per realizzare il cotone Blue Pavilion (acquistato dal sito Fancy Moon). Sul tessuto si posso infatt itrovare molti richiami delle attrazioni dei luna park come ad esempio di Coney Island: la ruota panoramica, i tendoni e le piste del trenino.

Mi è subito piaciuta molto questo cotone giapponese e l'ho utilizzato per creare un nuovo modello di borsa. Ho trovato delicati i toni di blu, bianco, rosso e nero usati e li ho voluti riprendere nel fiocco blu a pois bianchi che ho apposto. Blue Pavillon la potete trovare nel negozio online.

Kokka's designers were inspired by the fabulous pavilions built in Europe and America during the nineteenth century and then they combined cute elements from the world of the circus and the luna parks. You can see on the cotton the typical attractions of amusement parks like Coney Island: ferris wheel, the tents and the lil train tracks.

The exact name of the fabric made in Japan is Blue Pavilion (purchased from the site Fancy Moon) and I used it to create a new model of bag.

I find very interesting the delicate tones of blue, white, red and black and I took them back in the blue ribbon with white polka dots. Bag available in the online store.

Con queste giornate piovose e grigie ho cercato di colorare le mie borse con tinte autunnali e con stoffe che richiamassero il mondo del bosco.

Gufi, funghi e fiori autunnali sono pronti a ravvivare il vostro look di novembre.

Dopo vari esperimenti sono nate le borse a tracolla FOREST OWLS, FOREST MUSHROOMS e CATH; tutte disponibili nel negozio online.

Ho usato il delizioso cotone Alexander Henry's 'spotted owls' acquistato dal sito inglese Fancy Moon con tanti simpatici gufi un po' permalosi.

Il velluto a fiori e le stoffe con i funghi provengono dalla mia collezione personale di stoffe.

I bottoni a forma di foglia (troppo carini!) provengono dal sito italiano Buttonmad.it e li ho subito apprezzati per i loro colori caldi e autunnali.

Vorrei spendere due parole per l'alluvione del quartiere Marassi di Genova. Ho dei bellissimi ricordi del quartiere: voci, colori e profumi di ottimo cibo che aleggiava sulle strade. Ricordo il traffico incessante, i cori e le musiche dallo stadio, il mercato del sabato e la mitica focacceria Derby (senza la quale la mia relazione sarebbe andata in crisi!).

Il mio ragazzo viveva proprio nella zona colpita dal fango e quando abbiamo visto le immagini delle auto impilate, della devastazione presso la stazione Brignole e della morte dell'edicolaia di via Fereggianno siamo stati colti da profonda tristezza. Trovo ridicolo aprire un'inchiesta verso ignoti...bisognerebbe forse mettere in carcere decenni e decenni di politici e imprenditori che si sono susseguiti nella cementificazione/avvelenamento della città?

Il mio pensiero va a chi ora si trova in strada con secchi e pale per ripulire dal fango Genova.

Scusate per lo sfogo ma mi stava a cuore.

I tre gatti strambi si chiamano Oliver, Otto e Orazio.

It was a long time that I didn't create some cute cats. I used buttons for eyes and I embroidered with wool thread their mouths and noses. The ears are made with felt while the base is composed by brown and beige wool

The three weirdO cats are called Oliver, Otto and Orazio.
These cats cover-cell can "eat" any device that has measurements not to exceed 13cm x 7cm.

Daniele Sinhorelli è l'animatrice di questo vivace sito brasiliano specializzato nell'handmade e nelle creazioni indie.

Dani raccoglie personalmente idee e immagini dal web per metterle a disposizione della comunity internazionale di Banana Craft: ogni giorno si pubblicano post di progetti, di tutorial, di creazioni e di manifestazioni dedicate all'artigianato.

L'anno scorso tra i vari regali di natale, ho trovato una confezione di bottoni artigianali in gres a forma di cagnolino. Da quel momento la mia profonda ammirazione per ogni bottone di Buttonmad è cresciuta sempre più.

Sono tantissimi e svariati i temi che è possibile ritrovare sui bottoni: cani, gatti, gufi, foglie, fiocchi di neve, cuori, ochette e.... la lista continua

Ho deciso di adoperare la stoffa Dottie Mushroom che ho acquistato alla fiera di Abilmente per creare delle simpatiche cover per iPhone 4. Le cover sono imbottite e hanno una comoda tasca per inserire gli auricolari o biglietti. Io ad esempio che non uso gli auricolari sfrutto la tasca per inserire biglietti della metro o tessere.

Ho poi finito un porta cellulare Samsung Galaxy per Michela con la stoffa cupcakes.

I decided to use the Dottie's Mushroom fabric I bought at Abilmente exhibition to create some nice cases for iPhone 4. The cases are padded and have a handy pocket for insert earphones or tickets. For example, I don't use the earphones so I insert the trains tickets or cards inside the pocket.

I then finished a case for Michela's Samsung Galaxy phone with cupcakes fabric.

Sono stati due anni stupendi della mia vita in cui ho avuto l'onore di studiare a Venezia e di conoscere persone importanti. Ma una nuova avventura mi attende.

Abilmente, il giorno dopo

Ieri ho visitato la celeberrima fiera degli hobby creativi: Abilmente. Arrivata a Vicenza vengo travolta da una massa compatta di signore plus cinquanta armate di trolley e carrellini della spesa. I primi stand che catturano la mia attenzione sono stati ovviamente quelli dei tessuti e dei nastrini ma presto mi lascio infatuare anche di quelli del bricolage e delle perline. La fiera di Abilmente permette anche di partecipare a corsi (come quelli offerti dallo stand Etsy Italia)e a brevi lezioni di cucito e patchwork con famose maestre del settore.

Dopo un'ora di giretti tra gli stand comincio a notare anche i lati negativi, troppi stand che spacciano cose made in Italy o peggio fatte a mano quando sono palesemente ai miei occhi tutto il contrario. Ma lasciamo perdere...

Alla fiera incontro di persona Alessio di Legend Art: i bellissimi bottoni in ceramica che presto mi accingerò ad usare.

Incontro anche le simpaticissime proprietarie del negozio retro Fleur de Lin et Bouton d'or di Dinan. A loro dedicherò uno speciale post più avanti!

Tra tutte le cose che erano in vendita mi sono concessa l'acquisto di un set di fat quarters di cotone con il tema dei funghetti e un paio di bellissime stork scissors.

Yesterday I visited the craft fair Abilmente in Vicenza (Italy). When I arrived in Vicenza I'm overwhelmed by a dense mass of ladies plus fifty armed with shopping trolleys. First the fabrics and ribbons stands attracted my attention, but soon I explored all the fair. At Abilmente you can join in workshop (such as those offered by the stand Etsy Italia) and in short lessons about sewing and patchwork with famous teachers. I meet Alessio by Legend Art, beautiful ceramic buttons I soon set about to use and the shop owners by Fleur de Lin et Bouton d'or Dinan. I will dedicate a special post later about them!
I purchase a set of fat quarters of cotton with mushrooms and a beautiful pair of stork scissors.

Lazzari: fatto con cura in Italia. Questa frase è applicata su ogni singolo capo della meravigliosa collezione autunno/inverno realizzata da Lazzari. Sono personalmente fan dello stile Lazzari da quando mi sono trasferita a Padova ogni scusa è buona per entrare nel loro negozio e lasciarmi conquistare dal taglio curato e bon ton della loro collezione.

Chi vive nel Veneto ben conosce la fama del marchio veronese che tramite i propri cinque punti vendita di Verona, Vicenza, Padova, San Bonifacio e Bassano del Grappa offre la possibilità di immergersi nella moda romantica e femminile Lazzari.

Una delle ultime commissioni che ho portato a termine riguardava la creazione di un fiocco di nascita per l'arrivo di un bel maschietto. Il fatto che i futuri genitori si siano affidati al mio gusto presupponeva il comune astio nei confronti dei soliti fiocchi in tulle e raso che vendono (anche) nei supermercati.

Bene! La mia idea è stata quella di creare in stoffa una casetta con applicata una culla e il cartiglio con scritto Oh yeah it's a boy. Il progetto è stato subito accettato anche perché la casetta è molto simile alla vera casa che ospiterà il fiocco.

Ho sagomato, ritagliato e cucito i vari pezzi; poi ho dipinto il cartiglio azzurro e assemblato il tutto. Infine ho inserito l'imbottitura e fissato il tetto a mano con il punto a festone e ago per lana.

Ho finito di leggere (e studiare) il libro Classic Fashion Patterns of the 20th century. L'autrice Anne Tyrell ripercorre le varie stagioni del costume e della moda dall'inizio del Novecento fino agli anni Settanta, affiancando ad ogni decade di moda i patterns riprodotti in scala per comprendere e riproporre i modelli spiegati. Le illustrazioni sono di grande aiuto per evidenziare le trasformazioni della moda sia maschile che femminile. In questo libro sono contenute tantissime informazioni per chi vuole approfondire la storia della moda e il contesto che la influenzò.

In Gran Bretagna è usato tantissimo dai costumisti teatrali per aderire al meglio alla ricostruzione di un'ambiente d'epoca. Per il linguaggio tecnico adottato, il glossario posto in fondo al testo è di utilissimo aiuto per i non esperti.

On Sunday morning near Canoe Lake you can meet the District Model Power Boat Club. I'm walking along and I admire their boats and ships models, they are made with precision and a lot of passion. Se c'è una designer che rappresenta l'ambiente romantico e shabby chic di Londra è sicuramente Cath Kidston. Da più di quindici anni propone borse, accessori per la casa e il tempo libero dal chiaro stampo country ma miscelato ad un'allegro romanticismo un poco retro. I colori che la contraddistinguono sono il magenta, l'azzurro e il verde petrolio, mentre le fantasie più famose rimangono lo stampato a pois e il floreale.

Ovviamente non ho saputo resistere al suo stile e mi sono comprata un kit da cucito a pois color magenta e un porta aghi per maglia.

Per le vie di Londra e Portsmouth mi è capitato spessissimo di incontrare ragazze e signore con una borsa Cath Kidston, segno che il suo marchio è ormai un must per il look autunnale inglese.

Sweet brooches for sweet twins

La scorsa settimana ho preparato delle simpatiche spillette a forma di nuvoletta dei fumetti con ricamato sopra il nome di due bellissime gemelle: Veronica e Giuditta.
Ho utizzato il filo rosa per bordare le spille e renderle più delicate.
Non vedo l'ora di ricevere le foto delle gemelline che indossano le spillette sopra le loro tutine.
All'ordine si è poi aggiunta una spilletta a forma di lepre con pon pon viola.

Finalmente torno in Inghilterra e mi toccherà ambientarmi con la mia futura cittadina: Portsmouth!

I knitters sono di nuovo all'attacco!

Dopo aver avvolto in panni colorati di lana alberi, pali, fermate dell'autubus, idranti e quant'altro si potesse trovare sulla strada, arrivano anche gli attacchi di guerilla per creare giardini in verticale con la tecnica del crochet.

Mi piacerebbe molto incontrare per strada un giardino verticale in uncinetto: colorato e succolente!

Cute Ferret Sleeve

A prima vista può sembrare una semplice custodia per computer o iPad, ma in realtà è.... una sacca per furetto!

No, non sono diventata pazza, ma ho semplicemente esaudito il desiderio di Veronica e Ben che volevano una simpatica sacca per la loro furetta Boo.

In passato agli avevo realizzato una custodia per pc (vedi link) e da quel momento la curiosa Boo era impazzita per la morbida imbottitura interna e così è nata l'idea della sacca appositamente per lei.

Ho seguito con cura il progetto originario di Veronica e finalmente ho portato a termine il lavoro. Ho trovato subito simpatica l'idea del simbolo "warning" con la silhouette del furetto. L'ingresso è decorato con feltro giallo e tessuto nero, il tutto cucito per realizzare un comodo giaciglio per l'animaletto.

Non vedo l'ora di consegnarlo ^_^

Crochet, colors and Aldo Lanzini

Sono pochi gli artisti che riescono a elevare l'arte del crochet alla sfera dell'"Arte" (sopratutto a penetrare quella un po' snob contemporanea che va per la maggiore).

Chi non è immerso nell'artigianato - e intendo quello vero, fatto di attenzione per i dettagli e tanta tanta pazienza - guarda con aria stupita e incredula le meraviglie che l'artista un piccolo attrezzo come l'ago per crochet può creare se supportato da fervida fantasia e passione. Spesso si dimentica che in un'epoca veloce e poco manuale come la nostra, le creazioni artigianali sono ancora fermamente legate al tempo di lavorazione e alla pazienza di chi si destreggia.

Mi piace guardare con cura i lavori, notare le cuciture, leggere le trame e apprezzare il suono dei filati e dei tessuti sotto le mani.

Da poco mi sono appassionata a un artista italiano Aldo Lanzini (classe '68) che ha saputo portare le sue creazioni a livelli internazionali. Di lui ho subito apprezzato il senso di stratificazione che si può notare nelle sue opere/machere. Attraverso la sovrapposizione delle trame crea una opera tridimensionale imprevedibile e inscindibile. Senza parafrasare oltre la sua opera vi lascio gustare le immagini dei suoi lavori.

La prima sensazione che ho avuto nel vedere le palettes promosse da Pantone per la stagione autunnale è stata una piacevole sorpresa.

Credo che l'autunno sia una stagione ricca di contrasti, in cui le giornate possono offrire venti gelidi e raggi caldi di sole. I colori neutri quali grigi, verdi e marroni si sposano bene con punte di accesi colori caldi e freddi. Il resto è una questione di gusto e sensibilità.

Di sicura ispirazione per me saranno i colori Cedar, Coffee Liquèur, Quarry e Nougat. Per voi invece?

Fall, crafts, leaves and a vintage Bianchi

Ieri pomeriggio io e la mia amica Gloria ci siamo inoltrate nella campagna sul Lago di Como e abbiamo fatte delle foto per le nuove creazioni. Con la sua vintage Bianchi ci siamo sospinte in un angolino tranquillo e colorato.

La borsa autunnale e le collane si sono ambientate perfettamente con il paesaggio e Gloria sa bene come aderire allo spirito Fedulab. Mi ha anche dato l'idea di proporre con lo stesso cotone elastico delle cinture.

Se la creatività è rendere autentico il prodotto è tra questi prati incoronati dalle montagne che ho radicato i miei ricordi. Nonostante tutto quello che mi è accaduto qui mi sento in armonia. Mia nonna dice che per andare lontano ci vogliono radici profonde. Le radici sono qui, le fronde chissà dove si spingeranno.

Yesterday my friend Gloria, her vintage Bianchi and I went into the countryside on Lake Como and we took pictures in a quiet and colorful place for new creations.
The fall's bag and the necklaces was set perfectly with the landscape and Gloria knows how to embrace the Fedulab-spirit. She gave me the idea to propose the same stretch cotton for a belt.
If creativity means to make truly products, it's between these mountains that I rooted my memories. Despite what is happened to me in this bad period, here I feel in harmony. My roots are here, who knows where I will push my foliage.

The Autumn Leaves Fall

La mia ricetta per l'autunno è il verde acido e il beige. Adoro la combinazione dei due colori e in base a questi ho creato una borsa e delle collane autunnali.

Ispirandomi alla nuova stagione ho abbellito la borsa con una maxi tasca fatta di tante foglie in tweed inglese. La chiusura è a bottone clip e l'interno è foderato con tasca.

Finita la borsa mi sono decisa di creare delle collane in cotone elastico beige e verde acido (tipo quello delle t-shirt). Per farle in coordinato ho nascosto il nodo delle collane dietro le sagome delle foglie ricavate dal restante tweed. Infine ho aggiunto qualche perla di legno e dei bottoncini sulle tweed-foglie.

Oggi mia mamma si è finalmente rimessa a camminare e già mi ha prenotato una borsa a tracolla su questo motivo. Prima di tornare a Padova gliela devo fare (sono stata minacciata!).

My recipe for autumn's collection are the acid green and beige colours. I love this combination and I created a bag and autumn necklace with leaves.

Inspired by the new season I embellished the bag with a big pocket made of many leaves in English tweed. The closure is button-clips and the inside is lined with pockets.

After the bag I decided to create necklaces in stretch cotton beige and acid green (like t-shirt cotton). I hid the knot behind the shapes of leaves taken from the remaining tweed. Finally I added some wood-pearls and buttons on the and leaves-Tweed.

Per la serie: "Che noia le camicette troppo semplici". Cercavo una camicetta carina e con quel qualcosa di particolare per giustificale un acquisto sensato.

Alla fine ho risolto la questione acquistando una camicetta con righine bianche e rosse che ho poi arricchito con due gufi sopra le taschine.

Ho ricamato con pazienza il tutto e ho aggiunto una piccola iniziale tra due cuoricini. Vi piace?

Campagnola life

Non è un periodo molto semplice per me e la mia famiglia e nelle prossime settimane dovrò letteralmente modificare i miei piani. Purtroppo mia madre non se la passa bene e così mi sono trasferita di nuovo in casa dei miei, per occuparmi delle faccende quotidiane e accudire i miei nonni. Tra le varie mansioni casalinghe che mi aspettano ogni giorno c'è quella di prendermi cura dell'orto.

Guardate quante belle verdure io e mio nonno abbiamo raccolto. C'è di tutto: fagiolini, melanzane, peperoni, carote, insalata, pomodorini e una cassetta di pesche. Tutto bio e tutto delizioso!

It isn't a very simple period for me and my family and I'll have change my plans for next weeks. Unfortunately my mother is sick and so I moved back to my parents' house to take care of daily chores and take care of my grandparents. Among the household tasks I had to take care of the garden.

Look how many beautiful vegetables my grandfather and I have collected. There's everything: green beans, eggplant, peppers, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes and a box of peaches. All organic and all delicious-ious!

Fino ad inizio ottobre sarò tremendamente occupata a far nascere la mia tesi.

Dovrò usare le mie doti poietiche per completare l'ultima prova della mia carriera da studente universitario.

Dopo di che sarò completamente libera di dedicarmi alle creazioni e mi godrò le gioie della mia nuova futura casa in cui insedierò per almeno un paio d'anni il Fedulab. Dove mi trasferisco? Non è ancora il momento di svelarlo ma sappiate che mi si illuminano gli occhi se solo ci penso.
Ecco appunto...prima devo laurearmi e poi potrò prendere il largo!

This will be my last effort as a student in university of Venice.
After that, I will be completely free to devote myself to the creations and I'm going to enjoy my new future home. Where will I move? It's not yet time to reveal it.

Come molti sapranno la rivista Fiber Arts ha smesso di pubblicare a inizio di questa estate. Al suo posto gli abbonati (come me) ricevono il magazine Quilting Arts.

Oggi ho ricevuto la mia prima copia e devo dire che ho notato molte differenze.

Il taglio editoriale di Quilting Arts è rivolto, come il titolo segnala, alla tecnica del quilt con poche eccezioni ad altre tecniche.

Sicuramente c'è sempre da imparare da questa rivista, ma un po' rimpiango le sezioni dedicate alle mostre e agli artisti tessili di Fiber Arts.
