New Marimekko fabrics

When I was in a bookshop in Milan, never mind how long ago that was, I opened a book about the finnish desing and I saw for the first time the incredible fabrics from Marimekko. 

Honestly, I had no idea that one day I would have the possibility to using them for my creations. I have always been very passionate about scandinavian design and when I received from the Koti store the original Marimekko cottons I was over the moon. 

For the next fall collection I've chosen three new patterns: 

Kuukuna is a beautiful Marimekko print by Jenni Tuominen ispired by the blue forest where you can find the magical presence of autumn mushrooms (puffballs). 

Valpuri is a cute cotton created by Maija Louekari and filled with funny animals like fishes, cats, monkeys and sleeping lions. 

Kaneliruusu (Cinnamon roses) is a warm fabric designed by Erja Hirvi in 2010 with a vibrant floral motif marked with wild roses blooming against a red background. 

 I feel sure that one day I'll a visit personally Koti in Perugia (Italy) and I'll grab more fabrics from their gorgeous Marimekko fabrics wall, but in the meantime I go on their lovely website and Facebook page to visit 

them ^_^

 

Un giorno che mi trovavo nella libreria Hoepli di Milano, non ricordo più quanto tempo fa, scovai un libro sul desing finlandese e per la prima volta vidi gli incredibili tessuti di Marimekko. 

Onestamente, non avrei mai pensato che idea un giorno avrei avuto la possibilità di utilizzarli per le mie creazioni. Sono sempre stata molto appassionata del design scandinavo e quando ho ricevuto dal negozio Koti i cotoni originali Marimekko ero semplicemente al settimo cielo. 

Per la prossima collezione autunnale ho scelto tre nuovi modelli: 

Kuukuna è una bella stampa Marimekko di Jenni Tuominen ispirata ad una foresta blu dove è possibile trovare colorati funghi autunnali (soffioni). 

Valpuri è un cotone creato da Maija Louekari pieno di animali fiabeschi come pesci, gatti, scimmie e leoni dormienti. 

Kaneliruusu (Cinnamon rose) è un tessuto progettato da Erja Hirvi nel 2010 con un vibrante motivo floreale marcato con rose selvatiche su uno sfondo rosso vermiglio. 

Sono sicura che un giorno farò una visita personalmente al negozio Koti di Perugia e svaligerò il loro splendido espositore di tessuti Marimekko, ma nel frattempo mi limito a visitare giornalmente le novità sul loro sito web e sulla loro pagina Facebook ^_^

July's new arrivals from Seamstar

In my opinion the month of July is one of the most fruitful during the year because everybody is looking for something original and colourful as are my handbags.

For this reason I chose some lovely fat quarters from the site Seamstar and I'm ready to use these beauties for my creation.

Here you can see:

- Pac Man by Timeless Treasures: a great print for those who love old school video games

- Shards by Heather Moore: the designer has played with the plane geometry of the trilateral shape

- Birdcage by Dear Stella: a fat quarter with the classic regency pattern of the birds and their cage

and

-Folklorico Los Novios + Corazones Hearts by Alexander Henry: they are definately my favorite ones because I am a big fan of Alexander Henry and their collection inspired by the popular Mexican culture of Santa Muerte is simply beautiful. With Corazones Hearts I made the messenger bag Leticia and I'm really sorry to say that it's already sold on my estore.

Sono davvero convinta che Luglio sia per me uno dei mesi più proficui dell'anno perchè tutti sono alla ricerca di qualche accessorio colorato e inusuale, magari proprio come le mie borse.

Per questa ragione ho scelto dei nuovi colorati fat quarters dalla collezione di Seamstar e sono pronta a usarli per fare qualcosa di speciale.

Con la stoffa con i cuori sacri ho realizzato la borsetta a tracolla Leticia ma aimè è già andata a ruba nel mio negozio online.

I'm writing you while I am looking at my new precious fabrics received from the online shop Nelaro, where I usually discover the most trendy cottons. 

I really needed new materials to make new creations for this summer and for the future markets.

New fabrics just arrived!

This week is starting out well with these new awesome cotton print just arrived from Nelaro online fabric store. Now you have to imagine myself with shining eyes because everytime I'm handling new materials I go hog wild. 

Inside the package I found three cottons: 

Whiskers & Tails Lime Dogs designed by Robert Kaufman 

What can I say? It's adorable because it depicts an English park where several dogs wagging their tails. I recognized on it a dachshund, a Scottish terrier and a Labrador. I will create a passport cover with and some dog bandanas. 

Animal Party Too-Bright Summer Flowers by Robert Kaufman 

A cotton very cheerful, filled with colorful flowers. It will be perfect to create new handbags. 

Hearts & Flowers designed for the collection of Michael Miller 

If you followed this blog you'll recognize the fabric I used for my new pillowcase.

La settimana si apre con questi meravigliosi cotoni stampati appena arrivati dal negozio online di tessuti Nelaro.

Immaginatemi con gli occhi che brillano perché ogni volta che ho sotto le mani nuovi tessuti vado in visibilio. Nel pacchettino erano contenuti tre cotoni: 

Whiskers & Tails Lime Dogs disegnato da Robert Kaufman 

Che dire? Adorabile perchè riproduce un simpatico parco inglese dove vari cagnolini scondinzolano in giro, per la precisione ho riconosciuto un bassotto, un Scottish Terrier e un labrador. Con questo cotone creerò un porta passaporto e una bandana per cani. 

Animal Party Too-Bright Summer Flowers sempre di Robert Kaufman 

Un cotone estremamente solare, estivo e ripieno di fiori colorati, sarà perfetto per creare nuove borse. 

Hearts & Flowers disegnato per la collezione di Michael Miller

April's new arrivals from Seamstar

Aprile si è aperto nel migliore dei modi: finalmente ho ricevuto tre bellissime stoffe dal negozio online inglese Seamstar con cui creerò nuove borse e astucci estivi. 

Su Seamstar avevo a disposizione una vasta scelta di stoffe primaverili dei migliori designer tessili ma alla fine ho puntato su queste tre stoffe. 

Per prima ho scelto "Kitty in Red" disegnata da Chloe's Closet perché richiama il tema del gatto e soprattutto perché rimanda allo stile anni '30: colori nitidi, immagini semplici e fantasia a pois. 

Dallo stile spensierato di "Kitty in Red" si passa alla fantasia contagiosa di Alexander Henry e della sua "Leaf in Red" (dalla collezione "Griffith Park"). Sul cotone si intrecciano rami di vite con foglie colorate che sfumano dal rosa al vinaccia. 

Infine che cosa si ottiene se si prende qualche agrume, qualche ortaggi ed utensili da cucina e li si vuole mischiare con una punta di stile retro? Ecco che nasce il cotone "Veggies" creato da Maude Asbury (collezione "Kitchy Kitchen") caratterizzato da colori brillanti, disegni nitidi e quella punta di grafica anni '60 che amo tanto. 

Per questo motivo ho subito "aggredito" questo cotone e ho confezionato una simpatica borsa estiva: VEGGIE che sicuramente andrà a ruba nel mio Bigcartel. 

Ora non mi resta che lavorare sulle altre stoffe ^_^

April has started in the best way: I received three beautiful fabrics from the online store Seamstar with which I will create new summer bags and cute cases. On Seamstar you can find a wide range of seasonal fabrics from best designers and in the end I focused my attention on these three cottons. 

First, I chose "Kitty in Red" designed by Chloe's Closet because she recalls the theme of the cat, represents a longing for the past in both colour and pattern like the '30s style: vibrant colors, simple images and polka dots prints. 

From the carefree style of "Kitty in Red" we can jump to the contagious fancy of Alexander Henry and his "Leaf in Red" (from the collection "Griffith Park"). It features vines and leaves, in a creative wavy design where the pink shades off into deep purple. 

What do you get if you take some citrus, some vegetables and kitchen utensils, and and give them a touch of retro style? You get the cotton "Veggies" created by Maude Asbury (collection "Kitchen Kitchy") characterized by bright colors, clear drawings and graphics that recall the '60s. 

I love this cotton and for this reason I have "attacked" it and created a nice summer bag: VEGGIE. It sells like hot cakes on my Bigcartel.

Unikko Mini for a cover

Unikko Mini è stata inaugurata! 

Nello scorso post vi ho parlato dell'arrivo delle meravigliose stoffe nordiche Marimekko dal negozio online di Perugia Koti Design-House e ora vi mostro come ho iniziato a impiegarle. 

Che onore sminuzzare per la prima volta un tessuto Marimekko. Per una commissione di una cover pc ho usato la coloratissima Unikko Mini miscelandola con un tessuto rosso magenta che riprendesse il colore di un fiore. 

La prossima stagione primaverile produrrò sicuramente delle borse con questo tessuto davvero allegro. 

Il mio consiglio per chi volesse usare queste stoffe è di spezzare la ricchezza del pattern con un colore che richiami la palette di colori usati nel motivo, soprattutto nella creazione di un oggetto grande come una borsa o una cover pc. Poi siete ovviamente liberi di sbizzarrirvi e sperimentare quanto volete!

Guardate la premier Marimekko per la primavera/estate 2012 [gli abiti sono davvero belli, ma vedete anche voi che le modelle fanno "fatica" a camminare scalze?]

In the last post I talked about the arrival of a pack with some beautiful northern Marimekko fabrics from online shop Koti-House Design and now I wanna show you how I began to use one in particular. 

It was an honor for me cut for the first time a Marimekko fabric: Unikko Mini. For a customer I made a cover PC made up with a piece of Unikko Mini and a magenta fabric that married the color of a flower. For the next spring's collection I'll make some bags with this fabric very happy. 

My advice to those who wishing to use these materials is to break the rich pattern with a color taking from the palette of the pattern, especially in the large size creations like a bag or a computer cover. 

Then you are obviously free to do what you like!
