I have never been in Mexico but I wish I had my very own private jet because the Festival Internacional del Globo is held this week in León, Guanajuato, Mexico. About 200 pilots, representing over a dozen countries, congregated in León’s Metropolitano Park to speckle the sky with their hot air balloons for this annual ballooning event, which has come a long way since its humble beginning in 2002 with 27 balloons.

Andy Kehoe

Oh my! I completely fall in love with Andy Kehoe's style. 

As you already know I have a soft spot for anything is concerned with the wonderful and dark creatures of the forest. There is something in his art that reminds me the imaginary world of Hayao Miyazaki and Maurice Sendak. Anyway nobody can fill their shoes but I appreciate the Andy's style and the feelings that can arouse. 

I look up to him because Andy has a dab hand at painting! Among all his pictures I really like the "Together at the Threshold" one. The reason is easy: because he painted and dedicated the artworks to his future wife. Awwww! 

Well I hope to dream tonight a lot of weirdo cats, horned spirits and fairy forests.

Ci risiamo, sono mi sono invaghita di un nuovo pittore: Andy Kehoe. 

Come ormai saprete adoro tutto ciò che richiama il mondo misterioso e oscuro della foresta (creature annesse) e quindi è stato logico l'essere stata attratta dal suo stile. 

C'è qualcosa nel suo stile che mi ricorda l'immaginario di Hayao Miyazaki e di Maurice Sendak. Ovviamente nessuno può competere con loro ma in ogni caso apprezzo il suo stile e i ricordi che richiama alla mente.

In definitiva lo ammiro! 

Tra tutti i suoi meravigliosi dipinti quello che più amo è "Together at the Threshold" (ovvero "Insieme alla soglia di...") per il semplice motivo di essere stato dipinto per accompagnare l'artista durante la proposta di matrimonio alla sua storica fidanzata (poi le cose non andranno esattamente in questo senso però il progetto iniziale era quello). 

Bene, stasera spero di sognare tanti gatti misteriosi, foreste fatate e spiriti della natura.

Jätski: inside a Victorian Glasshouse

Take a quiet afternoon, add a couple of friends and a small English Victorian greenhouse.
Stop and take a moment to admire with a cup of tea in your hand all the beautiful things that grow with no hurry in a greenhouse. You just might find new inspiration.
Thus was born the lovely handbag ​​Jätski made with Scandinavian Marimekko "Jätski" fabric that recalls the colours of summer and the seaside.
As always I have entrusted to the online store Koti Design to procure Marimekko cotton prints.
With my friends Ainara and Gonul, we found a Victorian greenhouse and to our surprise we found inside buds ready to grow!

Prendi un tranquillo pomeriggio, un paio di amiche e una piccola serra vittoriana. Fermati un attimo ad ammirare la natura che cresce senza fretta con una tazza di te in mano e l'ispirazione arriverà da sola!
Così è nata la deliziosa borsa Jätski realizzata con il tessuto scandinavo Marimekko "Jätski" che richiama i colori dell'estate e del mare.
Come sempre mi sono affidata al negozio online Koti Design per procurarmi i pregiati tessuti Marimekko.
Con le mie amiche Ainara e Gonul ci siamo addentrate in una serra abbandonata e con nostra sorpresa abbiamo trovato all'interno dei germogli pronti a crescere.

Uno dei passaggi che preferisco di più in assoluto nel creare borse o accessori è quello della scelta preliminare delle stoffe da usare.
Non mi stanco mai di cercare nuove stoffe perché sono dell'opinione che ogni ogni tessuto può darmi nuova ispirazione e permettermi di creare qualcosa di bello e simpatico.
Da quando sono in Inghilterra ho trovato tanti bei negozi di stoffa che svaligerei letteralmente!
Tra questi ho trovato davvero carino e professionale il negozio di vendita online Seamstar www.seamstar.co.uk curato con passione da Courtney.
Ogni mese si possono trovare tutte le più belle novità dei designer di tessuti tra cui Alexander Henry, Amy Schimler, Jennifer Moore Monaluna, Maude Asbury, Sparky & Marie, Timeless Treasures e molti altri.
Tra le novità in arrivo Seamstar si è assicurata l'esclusiva della nuova collezione "Flea Market Fancy" di Denyse Schmidt e stampata dalla Free Spirit. Denyse ha rielaborato i nuovi pattern utilizzando delicate palette ma tenendo intatto il suo stile.
Colori squillanti e disegni fantasiosi si trovano nella collezione "Summersville" di Lucie Summers per Moda Fabrics. La collezione creata da Lucie punta sui colori del verde smeraldo, arancio, nero, blu cyan e rosso, ed è chiaramente influenzata dallo stile scandinavo.

I love looking for new fabrics because I think each fabric can give me new inspiration to create something beautiful and nice. Since I'm in England I found so many beautiful shops of fabrics! 

Among them I found really nice and professional online store Seamstar www.seamstar.co.uk cared passionately by Courtney. 

Every month you can find new fabrics from the most beautiful textile designers including Alexander Henry, Amy Schimler, Jennifer Moore Monaluna, Maude Asbury, Sparky & Marie, Timeless Treasures and many others. 

Among the new arrivals, Seamstar has secured the exclusive new collection of "Flea Market Fancy" by Denyse Schmidt and printed by the Free Spirit. Denyse has revised the new pattern using a modern sensibility and cute palette.

Buon sabato a tutti.

Sono tornata temporaneamente in Italia per portare a termine il mio ultimo impegno universitario: lunedì finalmente discuto la tesi a Venezia (sicuramente dedicherò un post per farvi vedere cosa ho studiato). 

Oggi però vorrei presentarvi Leah Reena Goren, una bravissima illustratrice newyorkese specializzata nella creazione di pattern per sete. Avendo un debole per i tessuti stampati mi sono subito innamorata del suo stile allegro ma con un gusto retrò. 

Le sue stampe si caratterizzano per i colori pastello, la fantasia floreale e l'astrattismo che ricorda un po' gli acquarelli del primissimo Kandinsky. 

Leah utilizza le sete per realizzare delicati foulard e abiti primaverili.

Hey! I'm coming back in Italy to discuss my thesis and this monday my family, my friends and I will go to Venice, yay! 

Today I would like to show you Reena Leah Goren's artworks, she's a very talented illustrator living in New York. She's trying to make the world more beautiful with her works like silk pattern and cute illustration. 

I fell in love with her handsome style with a retrò touch. Her prints are characterized by pastel colors, the floral and abstract themes that look like the very early Kandinsky watercolors. 

Leah uses silk to make fine scarves and delicate spring clothes.

Unikko Mini for a bag

Era da un po' di tempo che bramavo di realizzare una bella borsa con i tessuti finlandesi di Marimekko e finalmente ce l'ho fatta!

Il tessuto Unikko Mini, proveniente dal negozio online Koti Design-house di Perugia, è il protagonista della borsa Eutalia che richiama il gusto colorato e spensierato degli anni Sessanta. Proprio negli anni Sessanta, precisamente nel 1964, Maija Isola diede vita ad una collezione di pattern realizzata a motivi floreali per Marimekko. 

Il pezzo di stoffa in mio possesso richiama i colori caldi del magenta, dell'arancio e del giallo che ben si combinano con il bordo rosso, infatti a gennaio avevo sperimentato questa combinazione per un copri pc.

Eutalia is a spring bag made with the stunning Marimekko's Unikko Mini cotton (from the online  store of Koti design-house). 

The Unikko pattern is Marimekko’s most iconic design and recall the 60's spirit. Maija Isola created “Unikko” in 1964 with a lot of flowers in different warm colors like yellow, orange and magenta. 

I mixed this piece of fabric with a red band and I'm really satisfied with the result. Last January I proved this combination for a cute cover laptop.

Marimekko Stuff from Koti DesignHouse

Era da tantissimo tempo che sognavo di usare le stoffe Marimekko per le mie creazioni, poi un giorno scopro che esiste il negozio online di Koti DesignHouse e i sogni diventano realtà.

A Perugia Angela e Riccardo hanno aperto da poco più di un anno il negozio Koti specializzato nella vendita di complementi d'arredo del miglior design scandinavo e parallelamente gestiscono in modo impeccabile anche il negozio online.

Marimekko, Iittala e Tonfisk sono solo alcuni brand a cui Koti si affida per la scelta dei prodotti quali tazze, piatti, lampade, tessuti e giochi.

Sul sito tra le varie categorie disponibili ovviamente mi sono persa nella sezione tessuti Marimekko di cui hanno una bella e fornita scelta.

Una volta formalizzato l'ordine mi sono trovata benissimo con la spedizione: in pochi giorni il corriere mi ha consegnato il prezioso pacchetto blu ed ora sono qui a mostrarvi il contenuto in tutta la sua bellezza.

Che ne dite? Sono stupende e non vedo l'ora di utilizzarle.

Sewing in orange

Per distrarmi e rilassarmi un po' dalla stesura della tesi ho iniziato un nuovo mini progetto di ricamo.

Dopo aver ricamato un gufo, ho tratto dai miei temi preferiti il disegno per il mio nuovo lavoretto. Per il fondo ho usato un cotone arancione e ho selezionato una palette di cinque colori=fili da utilizzare.

Non sarà un lavoro velocissimo perché ho deciso di usare il punto pieno (a doppio ripasso) e quindi ci vuole un po' più di pazienza.

Appena l'avrò terminato vi farò vedere i risultati; intanto mi rilasso ascoltando i Boards of Canada.

I started a new mini embroidery project, while distracting myself a little from thesis.

I took inspiration from my favorite themes for this work. For the background I used an orange cotton and I selected a palette of five colors = threads to use.

It will not be a fast work because I'm using the satin stitch to cover all the sections.

Let's go sewing and listening to Boards of Canada.

L'autrice Vanessa Friedman ha raccolto e ordinato stampe, schizzi e fotografie tratte dall'archivio Emilio Pucci di Firenze in modo da evidenziare il percorso storico che ha reso celebre il marchio Pucci a livello internazionale.

Le pagine riportano le immagini delle famose stampe caleidoscopiche e dei leggeri tessuti jersey che sono diventate leit-motiv del marchio fiorentino.

Un viaggio dagli anni Cinquanta di Emilio Pucci a oggi dove a capo dell'impero regna Laudomia Pucci dal 1992, anno della morte di Emilio Pucci, assieme al designer britannico Metthew Williamson.

Un particolare interessante del volume XL è dato dalla sua copertina, ricoperta dai tessuti Pucci e per questo pubblicato in un numero limitato di copie.

Per me che sono innamorata di stampe dei tessuti, lo stile di Emilio Pucci è davvero riconoscibile ed elegante. Stavo passeggiando (solo passeggiando!) al piano terra dei magazzini Harrods quando sono capitata nel settore foulard e come al solito mi sono messa a fare il gioco dell'"indovina che casa di moda ha fatto questo foulard".

Tra tutti quelli esposti ho scelto un bellissimo foulard di seta a campi verdi delimitati di nero, l'ho ben guardato e dopo di che ho esclamato: "ovviamente Pucci!". E avevo ragione (per conferma ho cercato il cartellino anche se non avevo dubbi).

Forest Theme

Con queste giornate piovose e grigie ho cercato di colorare le mie borse con tinte autunnali e con stoffe che richiamassero il mondo del bosco.

Gufi, funghi e fiori autunnali sono pronti a ravvivare il vostro look di novembre.

Dopo vari esperimenti sono nate le borse a tracolla FOREST OWLS, FOREST MUSHROOMS e CATH; tutte disponibili nel negozio online.

Ho usato il delizioso cotone Alexander Henry's 'spotted owls' acquistato dal sito inglese Fancy Moon con tanti simpatici gufi un po' permalosi.

Il velluto a fiori e le stoffe con i funghi provengono dalla mia collezione personale di stoffe.

I bottoni a forma di foglia (troppo carini!) provengono dal sito italiano Buttonmad.it e li ho subito apprezzati per i loro colori caldi e autunnali.

Buon autunno e buona merenda...vado a mangiare un po' di nespole!

After several experiments I made three shoulder bags called FOREST OWLS, FOREST MUSHROOMS and CATH. All bags are available in the online store.

I used the lovely Alexander Henry Cotton's' spotted owls' purchased from the British site Fancy Moon.

The velvet fabric with flowers and the cotton with mushrooms come from my personal and precious collection of fabrics.
