Friday Fav: Pattern by Orla Kiely

She is one of the most important designer in Uk and she loves being considered the queen of the pattern kingdom. If you like both the 1960's and 1970's-style you can not resist to the visionary brand of Orla Kieley. Orla grew up in Ireland and after a degree in design at Dublin's Nationa College of Art and Design she entered in the Esprit Maison. Then she founded her own brand and now the store in London's Covent Garden is the epicentre of her empire.

I have read this book immediately: it is so inspiring and it has delighted my eyes, really!

Traditional florals, sprigged prints and powerful colours are the essential ingredients of patterns.

Highlight of the year

Looking back, this past year in Uk has been especially challenging for me: moving in a new country, learning English, getting used to new habit and finding a job. There were times when I wondered if the effort was worth this, but the answer was and is always one, YES YES YES.
Now it's time to move (again) and the 2013 will start with a new house, a new sewing machine (loooooove!), a new city...and a new job as well! You know, the end of December is the perfect time of the year to reflect on the the memories and laughter of 2012.

The last day of summer in Brighton

Brighton! I've never been there before and I really liked this town with the Pier, the seaside, grand buildings and the Lanes because it doesn't look like a classical English town. 

There was a perfect weather, warm, bright, but with a cool breeze to keep things dry, we called it the last day of summer, in fact while I'm writing it's raining outside...welcome Autumn!

 

Gitarella a Brighton ieri, che dire? Era la prima volta che la visitavo e devo dire che mi ha piacevolmente colpito per il Pier, la spiaggia, gli hotel super snob e i Lanes che assomigliano ai caruggi genovesi, dove la cosa più facile è perdersi. Tutti questi elementi la rendono una città molto particolare e ben lontana dal classico impianto inglese fatto da una strada principale con tutti i soliti negozi internazionali: si respira invece un'aria particolare. 

Qui ad ogni angolo si possono incontrare "orde" di scolaresche italiane dove i ragazzi vengono richiamati dalla movida del sabato pomeriggio inglese, fatta di tappa al fish'n'chips e dolcetti in vendita ai "baracchini" sul Pier. 

Il tempo poi era perfetto, sole e cielo limpido accompagnato dalla solita brezza marina. Posso dire che è stato l'ultimo giorno d'estate infatti mentre scrivo impazza una bella pioggia fuori...benvenuto autunno.

A place to play with sewing and stitch: Clothkits

Hello! This week has been really busy, a lot of news and changes are coming. 

Yesterday I had the honour to visit one of the most creative space for the fabricaholics and crafters based in the south of the England: the Clothkits shop in Chichester. 

I've passed a wonderful morning in the shop and I've talked with Kay, the currently owner of Clothkits. She explained me why she bought the brand and how Clothkits looks at the future. "The secret - she said - is a simply mixture between innovations and traditions. We will never forget the strong heritage we have inherited and everyday we improve our creativity". 

Since 2007 the famous company specialized in sew-it-yourself kits has teamed up with London-based Rob Ryan and Brighton designer Jane Foster to make new excited desings. 

The next weeks Clothkits will move in a new and bigger space with the possibility to organise more and more workshops, awesome!

Hey! Questa settimana è stata davvero ricca di novità e in futuro ci saranno nuovi cambiamenti (uh uh uh). Ieri ho avuto l'onore di passare una fantastica giornata in uno dei negozi più interessanti per tutte le malate di stoffe come me, sto parlando del negozio Clothkits di Chichester (South England). Ho così passato la mattinata ispezionando ogni angolo del negozio e parlando con la titolare Kay. Mi ha così raccontato il motivo per cui ha rilevato il brand nel 2007 e di come intende portarlo nel futuro. Secondo lei il segreto del successo di Clothkits risiede nel fatto che si basa su solite tradizioni ma che vengono ogni giorno migliorate con innovazioni e creatività. 

E la creatività non manca di certo visto che dal 2007 il brand collabora con designer importanti come Rob Ryan e Jane Foster. 

Prossimamente il negozio si trasferirà in uno spazio più grande e ancora più creativo, dove ospitare sempre più workshop.

Uno dei passaggi che preferisco di più in assoluto nel creare borse o accessori è quello della scelta preliminare delle stoffe da usare.
Non mi stanco mai di cercare nuove stoffe perché sono dell'opinione che ogni ogni tessuto può darmi nuova ispirazione e permettermi di creare qualcosa di bello e simpatico.
Da quando sono in Inghilterra ho trovato tanti bei negozi di stoffa che svaligerei letteralmente!
Tra questi ho trovato davvero carino e professionale il negozio di vendita online Seamstar www.seamstar.co.uk curato con passione da Courtney.
Ogni mese si possono trovare tutte le più belle novità dei designer di tessuti tra cui Alexander Henry, Amy Schimler, Jennifer Moore Monaluna, Maude Asbury, Sparky & Marie, Timeless Treasures e molti altri.
Tra le novità in arrivo Seamstar si è assicurata l'esclusiva della nuova collezione "Flea Market Fancy" di Denyse Schmidt e stampata dalla Free Spirit. Denyse ha rielaborato i nuovi pattern utilizzando delicate palette ma tenendo intatto il suo stile.
Colori squillanti e disegni fantasiosi si trovano nella collezione "Summersville" di Lucie Summers per Moda Fabrics. La collezione creata da Lucie punta sui colori del verde smeraldo, arancio, nero, blu cyan e rosso, ed è chiaramente influenzata dallo stile scandinavo.

I love looking for new fabrics because I think each fabric can give me new inspiration to create something beautiful and nice. Since I'm in England I found so many beautiful shops of fabrics! 

Among them I found really nice and professional online store Seamstar www.seamstar.co.uk cared passionately by Courtney. 

Every month you can find new fabrics from the most beautiful textile designers including Alexander Henry, Amy Schimler, Jennifer Moore Monaluna, Maude Asbury, Sparky & Marie, Timeless Treasures and many others. 

Among the new arrivals, Seamstar has secured the exclusive new collection of "Flea Market Fancy" by Denyse Schmidt and printed by the Free Spirit. Denyse has revised the new pattern using a modern sensibility and cute palette.

La settimana scorsa ho fotografato le ultime borse Fedulab nella magica atmosfera dell'Isola di Wight e sulla spiaggia di Southsea. Spero vi piacciano e se vi va fatevi un giro nel negozio online ^_^

Quando si decide di fare una scampagnata sull'Isola di Wight bisogna tener ben presente che il tempo può cambiare nel giro di 5 minuti. Bene, domenica abbiamo potuto testare il selvaggio tempo inglese tra pioggia, neve (!), sole, vento, grandine (!) e poi ancora sole. 

I paesini dell'isola sono davvero incantevoli tra cottages e distese verdi, inoltre è un piacere sfrecciare in macchina sulle strade di costa ammirando il paesaggio circostante. 

Col traghetto siamo partiti da Fishbourne e abbiamo fatto tappa al mulino settecentesco di Bembridge (tra l'altro è stata la prima volta che ammiravo un mulino a vento vero!). Abbiamo poi percorso la Military Road in macchina, una stradina che segue a filo la costa a strapiombo sul mare e complice il bel tempo ci siamo fermati a fotografare gli scorci più belli. 

Immancabile è la visita ai "The needles", le tre guglie in roccia e gesso che rappresentano il simbolo dell'isola. Per raggiungerle abbiamo lasciato la macchina al Album Bay e abbiamo poi seguito il ripido footpath che porta in cima alla scogliera. 

Meraviglioso! 

 

When you decide to go for a picnic on the Isle of Wight please remember the weather can change within 5 minutes. 

Well, Sunday we tested the savage British weather between rain and snow (!), sun, wind, hail (!) and at last the sun again. The villages of the island are really lovely with thery cottages and the green fields, it's also a pleasure driving a car on the roads of the coast and admire the surrounding landscape. 

We arrived by ferry at Fishbourne and we stopped at eighteenth century Bembridge windmill(it was the first time that I admired a real windmill !). Then we followed the Military Road by car, a road that run along the coast overlooking the sea and with the good time we stopped to photograph the most beautiful point views. 

A visit to "The Needles" is a must, the three spiers of stone are the symbols of the island. To reach them we left the car at Album Bay and then we followed the footpath up to the cliff. 

Wonderful view!

"Fede dove ti trovi ora?" 

Ecco una domanda che mi si pone spesso, bhe la risposta è Southsea in UK! 

Mi sono trasferita da poco ma già adoro questa cittadina inglese. Southsea è inglobata in Portsmouth, una deliziosa città sul mare esattamente di fronte all'isola di Wight. Ho trovato questi video che parlano di alcuni negozianti che vedo sempre quando passeggio per Albert Road, sono persone molto gentili e originali! Video from wideaperturemedia.com

"Fede where you are now?" Here's a question you often ask me, well the answer is... in Southsea UK)! 

I moved in recently, but already I love this English town. Southsea is incorporated in Portsmouth, a charming seaside town in front of Isle of Wight. I found these funny videos about some dealers that I always see when I walk in Albert Road, they are very nice and original!

Sakura and Odoriko

Eccomi di nuovo!

Con grande gioia vi mostro le mie prime due borse prodotte direttamente dalla mia nuova postazione inglese: Sakura e Odoriko (disponibili nel mio negozio online). 

La stoffa che ho usato per la borsa Sakura viene direttamente dal Giappone e riporta su sfondo nero i fiori di ciliegio che sfumano dal rosa al bianco. Una stoffa davvero delicata. 

Mentre per la borsa Odoriko ho unito alla stoffa sakura un pezzo di tessuto Odoriko Dancers di Alexander Henry (acquistata dal sito Fancy Moon). Il risultato è venuto molto bene perché i fiori di ciliegio ben si intonano con i motivi d'orati della stoffa con i danzatori in kimono. La collezione primaverile Fedulab sta prendendo piede.

Here I am again with my newest two bags directly created from my new English station: Sakura and Odoriko (available in my online store). 

The fabric I used for Sakura bags comes from Japan and reports on cherry blossoms where the pink shades off into white. A very delicate fabric for a nice handmade bag.

For Odoriko bag I put together the sakura's fabric with a piece Alexander Henry's Odoriko Dancers (purchased from Fancy Moon). The final result outcame very well because the cherry blossoms' fabric well suited with the Japanese dancers of the last fabric. 

The spring collection Fedulab is catching on...stay tuned.
