Weekend Break in Cornwall

Ahhh una vacanzina in Cornovaglia è proprio quello che ci voleva per staccare un po' dal lavoro e dal perenne grigio dell'Inghilterra. Così insieme ad una coppia di amici abbiamo attraversato il sud della Cornovaglia tra scenari mozzafiato e piccoli borghi a strapiombo sul mare. Ottima compagnia, cielo sereno, cream tea e tanta natura. Che si deve volere di più? I have spent a wonderful weekend in Cornwall and I have to admit that it is a really nice place to visit. Looe, Polperro, Boscastle and Tintagel are the towns we reached with a couple of friends during the weekend. Obviously I have tasted the original cornish cream tea...so yummy!

Southsea Sunday Market

Here I am again! 

August is flying away and after a bad period I am ready to sew again a lot of creations for the autumn/winter collection. 

But today here in Southsea run a lovely farmers market: the Hampshire farmers' market. More than 20 vendors offered a great selection of local produce, dairy, cheese, meat, ready-to-eat, sweets, fresh bread, wine, crafts and flowers. I really love this atmosphere!

 

Eccomi di nuovo! 

Agosto vola velocissimo e dopo un periodo non troppo felice finalmente sono pronta sfornare le nuove creazioni per la stagione autunnale. Cosa c'è di meglio di farsi ispirare dai colori e profumi del mercato?

Stamattina si è tenuto nel centro di Southsea un delizioso mercato che riuniva i migliori venditori di prodotti naturali dell'Hampshire farmers' market. Un tripudio di colori e prodotti tra cui verdure, carne, formaggi, pane, dolci e fiori. Davvero bello!

Il "Love Sunday Market" si tiene la prima domenica di ogni mese presso il porto antico di Portsmouth, così quest'oggi ho convinto Alba e Riccardo a fare un giro al mercatino dell'artigianato locale. 

Un bel sole scaldava la "Square tower" dove erano collocati dei simpatici stand che vendevano sia oggetti vintage che handmade. Il mercatino si estendeva anche all'interno della torre del porto dove numerosi altri artigiani vendevano i propri prodotti. 

Una sala del pian terreno della torre è stato adibita a tea room, e per la precisione si trattava di una tea room non proprio convenzionale: le tazze e le teiere erano tutte diverse, ogni tavolo era addobbato con giochi, riviste e oggetti vintage. 

Io vado matta per queste cose! 

Nella tea room si respirava un'atmosfera molto amichevole e soprattutto il te con i dolcetti erano deliziosi. Dopo esserci riscaldati col te abbiamo approfittato del bel tempo primaverile per fare un giretto all'aperto mentre le inglesi evidentemente percepiscono il clima mite come estivo. ahahha! 

 

Today Alba, Riccardo and I went to the ‘Love Southsea’ Sunday Market. This market takes place at the Square Tower in the Old Portsmouth on the First Sunday in the Month and supports the local businesses and crafters (check out the site http://www.lovesouthsea.co.uk/). 

We have found many stands that offered a lot of handmade and colorful stuff like pillows, cases, necklaces and decorations. There is a lovely, great and vintage tea room inside the tower and we have a pot of tea and slice of tasty cake.

I love this place 'cause each cup is different and each table is decorated differently with vintage games, magazines and cute objects. In the tea room the atmosphere was friendly and the the pastries were delicious. 

After drinking tea we make a walk on the beach(taking advantage of the beautiful sunny day).

Isle of Wight

Quando si decide di fare una scampagnata sull'Isola di Wight bisogna tener ben presente che il tempo può cambiare nel giro di 5 minuti. Bene, domenica abbiamo potuto testare il selvaggio tempo inglese tra pioggia, neve (!), sole, vento, grandine (!) e poi ancora sole. 

I paesini dell'isola sono davvero incantevoli tra cottages e distese verdi, inoltre è un piacere sfrecciare in macchina sulle strade di costa ammirando il paesaggio circostante. 

Col traghetto siamo partiti da Fishbourne e abbiamo fatto tappa al mulino settecentesco di Bembridge (tra l'altro è stata la prima volta che ammiravo un mulino a vento vero!). Abbiamo poi percorso la Military Road in macchina, una stradina che segue a filo la costa a strapiombo sul mare e complice il bel tempo ci siamo fermati a fotografare gli scorci più belli. 

Immancabile è la visita ai "The needles", le tre guglie in roccia e gesso che rappresentano il simbolo dell'isola. Per raggiungerle abbiamo lasciato la macchina al Album Bay e abbiamo poi seguito il ripido footpath che porta in cima alla scogliera. 

Meraviglioso! 

 

When you decide to go for a picnic on the Isle of Wight please remember the weather can change within 5 minutes. 

Well, Sunday we tested the savage British weather between rain and snow (!), sun, wind, hail (!) and at last the sun again. The villages of the island are really lovely with thery cottages and the green fields, it's also a pleasure driving a car on the roads of the coast and admire the surrounding landscape. 

We arrived by ferry at Fishbourne and we stopped at eighteenth century Bembridge windmill(it was the first time that I admired a real windmill !). Then we followed the Military Road by car, a road that run along the coast overlooking the sea and with the good time we stopped to photograph the most beautiful point views. 

A visit to "The Needles" is a must, the three spiers of stone are the symbols of the island. To reach them we left the car at Album Bay and then we followed the footpath up to the cliff.

London: Natural History Museum and Chinese New Year

We spent a lovely day in London last sunday. First we visited the Natural History Museum: it was my first time there and I was really excited to meet dinosaurs and all the animals from the smallest invertebrate to the giant blue whale. 

Then we went into Chinatown where we find the Chinese New Year of the Dragon's parade. It was really nice admire the Lion Dances pass through the streets to bring good luck to the households and shops they visited. I love the lamps and decoration of London’s West End. 

Definately I spent a nice sunday!

Green Portchester

Con il favore di un mite pomeriggio domenicale siamo andati a visitare il castello romano/normanno di Portchester nella baia di Portsmouth. Che dire? Siamo stati avvolti dal vivissimo verde dei prati che ben si sposava con il grigio delle rovine del castello.
Per salire sulla cima della torre abbiamo percorso le strettissime scale a spirale (che vertigini!) che ci hanno condotto sul tetto da dove abbiamo ammirato il panorama della baia inglese.
Così abbiamo passato una tranquilla domenica pomeriggio passeggiando tra ruderi e cottage.

On Sunday afternoon we visited the Portchester Castle in Hampshire, South East England. We fall in love with this spectacular site: in one small corner lies the medieval castle while in the corner opposite is a romanesque church.
We walked through green and greener fields...a lovely Sunday.

Model boat club

Una delle tante cose che mi piacciono di Portsmouth è l'appuntamento fisso la domenica mattina del District Model Power Boat Club. Passeggiando lungo il Canoe Lake è bellissimo ammirare i loro modellini di barche e navi così ben fatte e rifinite. I membri del club se ne stanno seduti sulle panchine bevendo caffe e chiaccherando tranquillamente, mentre orgogliosi telecomandano le loro creazioni. Ho letto la storia di questo club in internet e si riporta che fu fondato nel 1909, guadagnandosi la fama di uno dei più antichi club di modellismo in Uk. Sito

On Sunday morning near Canoe Lake you can meet the District Model Power Boat Club. I'm walking along and I admire their boats and ships models, they are made ​​with precision and a lot of passion. Club members are sitting on a bench drinking coffee and chatting quietly with their radio control. I read the history of this club on the official site and it reported that was founded in 1909, earning a reputation as one of the oldest model clubs in the UK. Link

Domenica a Nervi

Cosa c'è di più romantico e piacevole che passeggiare lungo la riviera ligure la domenica mattina? Una sferzata di aria salata inebria le menti e il cuore.

Mi sono divertita a fotografare le reti abbandonate dai pescatori nel porto di Nervi, attrezzi sacri e intricati.

Con mio grande piacere ho ritrovato il parco con gli scoiattoli che visitai tanti anni fa. La prossima volta porteremo con noi un sacchetto pieno di ghiande selvatiche.

Su una piastrella del molo di Nervi ho letto dei versi di una poesia che mi rappresenta molto in questo momento.

Il respiro continuo dell’onda

mi insegnò ad essere caparbio.

Ho imparato anche l’attesa.

Sunday morning, my boyfriend and I visited Nervi, a small town near Genoa.

I photographed the fishing nets and the blue sea.
In a park we found so many squirrels in searching of acorns.
We love breathing the sea air. It's so inspiring!
