A soft spot for Marimekko fabrics

I have a soft spot for Marimekko fabrics because they remind me the tea towels of my childhood. When I was a child I used to drink tea in a lovely old mug with a scandinavian drawing on it. 

Now I have the great possibility to make new handbags with these gorgeous finnish cottons. 

Eevi (with a zipper closure) it's made with Rasymatto fabric from Marimekko collection, Maija is an handbag made using 100% cotton Finnish Marimekko fabric in their signature Unikko Red and Pink design. While Florinia (with a zipper closure) is made with a combination of fabrics from Marimekko, Horrockses and Robert Kaufman.

Ho un'infatuazione speciale per le stoffe Marimekko perchè mi ricordano tanto gli stofinacci della mia infanzia, in special modo da bambina ero solita bere il te in una vecchia tazza con un disegno scandinavo sopra. 

Oggi ho la possibilità di creare tante nuove cose con i cotoni Marimekko e soprattutto borse. 

Eevi (con la chiusura a zip) è stata realizzata con il cotone verde Rasymatto Marimekko, Maija invece con il cotone Unikko in versione rossa. Mentre Florinia (con chiusura a zip) è stata fatta mischiando tessuti Marimekko, Horrockses e di Robert Kaufman. 

A breve arriveranno tante nuove borse seguitemi qui o nel negozio online.

Susanne bisovsky is an austrian fashion designer based in Wien: in her work she plays with the established form of her country's traditional costume, the 'tracht'. She studied under Helmut Lang, Vivienne Westwood and Castelbajac.

I fall in love with her Everlasting collection that mixes folk and nature for chic damsel, I hope you will appreciate her particular way of thinking about contemporary fashion.

Chacarita

Il lino è un tessuto che utilizzo principalmente nei periodi estivi perchè è fresco, adatto alla bella stagione e poroso al tatto. Con l'ultimo pezzo di lino floreale che acquistai nella storica merceria di via Vigevano a Milano (a un passo dalla stazione di Porta Genova), ho realizzato la borsa CHACARITA. La potrete sfoggiare al mare, durante le passeggiate pomeridiane o uscendo con le amiche. Insomma di sicuro non passerete inosservate.

With the last piece of floral linen that I bought in the historic haberdashery in Milan (one step away from the station of Porta Genova), I realized the bag Chacarita. Linen is a fabric that I use for this bag because it is cool in summer, suitable for summer and porous to the touch. GREAT!

Spring time: due nuove borse

Era da un mese che avevo l'intenzione di lavorare il tessuto AMERICAN BEAUTIES della P&B Textiles (una delle più importanti aziende americane che producono cotoni stampati).

Alla fine mi sono decisa e ho sezionato il mio pezzo di cotone per ricucirlo sotto forma di due borse. Io e la mia macchina da cucire (con cui stranamente non ho bisiticciato) abbiamo creato due borse: ARLETTE e la tracolla MARLETTE.

Ho voluto sperimentare accostamenti con i colori pastello del rosa e dell'azzurro dopo essere rimasta colpita dal quadro di Poisson che ritrae la bella Madame Pompadour, proprio colei che portò la moda dei colori pastello alla corte di Versailles.

Nel negozio online troverete solo la tracolla MARLETTE perchè la borsa ARLETTE è stata venduta appena pubblicata. Che ve ne pare?

Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, painted around 1756 by François Boucher. This famous portrait of Louis XV's influential mistress is in the collection of the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, Germany.

I made two pretty bags with AMERICAN BEAUTIES by P & B Textiles (one of the largest American companies that produce printed cottons).
This quilt fabric has pink flowers with green leaves on a tone on tone soft blue background. My sewing machine and I created: Arlette and Marlette bags.
I was ispired by a Poisson's portrait of Madame de Pompadour, just the lady who brought the fashion of pastel colors (pink and blue) in the court of Versailles.

Vi presento TILLY. Questa è l'ultima borsa che ho creato negli scorsi giorni. Ho accostato due tessuti che si richiamavano sia per il colore (grigio oliva) che per il tema floreale.

Summa della settimana: sciarpe gatto

Questa settimana mi sono dedicata alla creazione delle sciarpe gatto.
Il salotto di casa è stato invaso da orecchie e zampine di stoffa.

Per quanto riguarda le borse mi sono lasciata ispirare dal Nord Europa
