Family roots

A volte ragiono sulle scelte che mi hanno portato a emigrare all'estero e non posso fare a meno che sentirmi vicino allo stile di vita dei miei nonni materni. Perchè se i miei genitori non hanno mai dovuto lavorare all'estero, la generazione precedente di cui fanno parte i miei nonni invece si.

Sia mio nonno che mia nonna prima di sposarsi han dovuto lasciare le campagne per andare a lavorare temporaneamente in Svizzera, mio nonno come bracciante e mia nonna come cameriera per una famiglia nobile di origine tedesca.

Frugando in casa dei miei genitori è spuntata una cassetta di legno colma di foto in bianco e nero e così ho pensato di scansionarle alcune. 

Così quando mi sentirò un po' malinconica mi basterà guardarle per ricordarmi tutto quello che hanno fatto per me e gli insegnamenti che mi hanno instillato. Anche perchè la mia nonna è stata la mia insegnante di cucito...a volte severissima, diciamo old school. Ricorderò sempre ad esemprio quando a 10 anni all'ombra della nostra casa mi obbligava a ricamare le bavagline per il mio fratellino in arrivo. 

Mitica nonna e immenso nonno che proprio un anno fa ci ha lasciato.

Insomma un piccolo post per ricordarli, perchè ovunque vado il loro ricordo vive in me :)

 

Today I want to write a post about my grandparents because they had had a lot of things in common with my life. Both emigrated to Switzerland and worked there for a long period. I found a small wooden box filled with a lot of pictures about them so I decided to digitize some. 

When I feel a little sad and nostalgic I will remember what they did for me and how much they loved me. My grandma taught me all I know about sewing and stitching, even if when I was a child she forced me to learn those arts with a strictly discipline.Well, it worked! 

Just a little memory about my gorgeous and unforgettable grandparents.

Cat cat caaaaat! Baize and Missy Von Vanity

At the end I have released new items on my Big Cartel store and I am really proud of them. We can start with the cat theme (yes, I am a cat lover): 

BAIZE, a gorgeous large messenger bag made in black cotton shaped as a black cat ready to pounce onto something. A very cat bag. 

MISSY VON VANITY, a zipper pouch that you can use to carry money, cards, cosmetics, a camera, ipod, pencils and other small essentials a girl needs. On the red polka dot cotton I have sewn (appliqué) a black cat with button-eyes and hand-embroidered smile. Her brown polka dot tail is a long strip and the four paws are really cute, a cherry on the cake! 

As you can see both are featured by a zipper closure to keep your things from dropping away. It is a revolution for me and I promise I will use zipper closures as much as I can.

[Italian version]

Finalmente ho pubblicato nel mio negozio online Fedulab le nuove creazioni che ho terminato durante queste due settimane di silenzio, sono proprio soddisfatta del risultato. Iniziamo con una borsa tracolla e un astuccio basate sul tema del gatto (si si adoro i gatti!): 

BAIZE è una spaziosa tracolla in cotone nero sagomata come il musetto di un vigile gatto pronto a saltare da qualche parte. Si può dire che è proprio una borsa per una cat lady! L'interno è foderato e ha una tasca per cellulare, chiavi ect. 

MISSY VON VANITY è un astuccio che può essere usato per trucchi, monete, tessere, macchine digitali, penne e tutto l'essenziale che una ragazza può avere bisogno. Puuurfect! Su un cotone rosso a pois ho applicato il corpo di un gatto nero a cui ho aggiunto gli occhi-bottoni e il sorriso con un ricamo a mano. Inoltre la coda marrone a pois può essere usato come laccio e le zampette sono davvero deliziose. Come potete vedere per entrambi ho usato una chiusura con zip in modo tale che più niente possa fuoriuscire dalla vostra borsa, si può dire che è una rivoluzione per me e prometto di usare zip a sproposito!

Shoal: Seaside Living

We love living by the sea! Frankly nothing beats sitting on the pebbles looking out over the Solent with an ice-cream in hand. 

Have you recognized the striped handbag hanging on the wall of the first picture? Yes! Now you can find some of my creations in one of the most beautiful shop in Southsea and I'm talking about Shoal: Seaside Living. 

Everything started more than a month ago when I was strolling on Albert Road and I came upon this shop. Ta-da! Well I really love everything is connecting with the sea and Shoal grants my wishes. Moreover it's kept by two cordial and friendly ladies: Anna (in the last picture) and Michelle who are sharing their passion of local artists and handmade. 

Everything sold in Shoal is made in the UK, usually locally as the creations of Peter Levy Colin Baxter, Emma Toman, Michelle Martin, Port and Lemon, Poppy Treffry, Sea pod, Alan Smith and mine. 

Actually you can find some handbags and the ice cream cones brooch handmade by me.

I love my dog and cat

It's the truth! I really love my dog and my cats (I miss them a lot!) and I hope also you too. 

The first time I saw the handmade shaped dogs and cats buttons of Buttonmad I was really thrilled because immediately I come up with a nice "craft" idea. 

On my moleskine I've drawn a sketch with a possible shape of the brooches but during the preparation I've decided to change the embroidered phrase.

From I [love] + button I passed to I [love] My + Dog/Cat button. I was looking for a more intimate slogan and I think the adding of "my" reaches the aim. What do you think? 

Now I have available four felt brooches "I love my cat" (in blue, yellow, lilac and green) and five models "I love my dog" (two scottish terrier, one labrador and two lilac spotted dogs). 

Let everybody know you love your pet ;)

 E' assolutamente vero: voglio tantissimo bene ai miei gatti e al mio cane (e mi mancano tanto!) e spero anche voi. 

La prima volta che ho visto i bottoni artigianali Buttonmad a forma di cane e gatto mi è venuta subito in mente un'idea artigianale da fare. 

Sul mio moleskine avevo abbozzato un'idea per le spille ma in corso d'opera ho poi deciso di cambiare la frase da ricamare. Da Io amo il cane sono passata a Io amo il MIO cane, è una piccola modifica ma rende di più l'idea di affetto che si prova verso il proprio animale domestico. Che ne dite? 

Al momento ho creato quattro spille gatto (verde, lilla, giallo e blu) e cinque con i cani (due scottish terrier, un labrador e due cagnolini a pois lilla). 

 Fatelo sapere a tutti che amate i vostri animali!

Totoro Cover Iphone

Last week I made a cute iphone cover ispired by the most famous character of the Ghibli, I'm talking about Totoro! You know that this is one of my favorite creature and I was really happy to create a tribute about him. 

I used a grey fabric for his body and a little piece of white cotton for his tummy/pocket. In the end I added two cute felt ears and two white buttons as eyes. 

Well, I'm very satisfied of the result and I've received a lot of orders for this creation on my Bigcartel.

La settimana scorsa ho realizzato una simpatica custodia per Iphone ispirata al più famoso personaggio della famiglia Ghibli, ovviamente sto parlando di Totoro. Come sapete io sono pazza di questa creatura e ogni volta che realizzo un tributo in suo onore mi emoziono sempre. 

Per questa cover ho utilizzato del semplice cotone grigio a cui ho aggiunto la pancia/tasca in cotone bianco. Ho completato il tutto con due orecchie in feltro e due bottoni. 

Il risultato mi ha molto soddisfatto soprattutto perchè ho ricevuto parecchie richieste tramite il mio Bigcartel.

Di solito siete abituati a vedere le mie creazioni belle e pronte. Oggi rovescio il trend e vi faccio vedere un po' di lavoro nel backstage del Fedulab alle prese con forbici, fili, pezzi di stoffa e bottoni.

Busy thursday

Not until I had finished serving some bags, cooking a little and taking funny pictures did I notice that the week was too short! 

Gasp, I'm munching some scones :)

Ho giusto finito le nuove borse, cucinato qualche dolce e fatto alcune foto e mi rendo conto che la settimana è ormai giunta al termine.

Uff, mi mangiucchio qualche scones e via!

Hello my name is totoro

Totoro is undoubtedly my favorite character from Hayao Miyazaki's filmography. For this reason I created a new felt brooch: Totoro available on http://fedulab.bigcartel.com/

I made both grey and blue version, but my favorite is the grey one. 

If you buy one you will receive the brooch inside a lovely packaging, a green leaves pack. I used a green softie paper and I sewed the leaves nervature with my sewing machine. 

Finally I stiched up with a button and I applied a cute tag.

Totoro è senza dubbio il mio personaggio preferito dei film di Hayao Miyazaki, per questo motivo ho creato una spilla tributo in feltro: Totoro disponibile nel mio negozio online http://fedulab.bigcartel.com/

Ho realizzato sia la versione grigia che quella blu, ma la mia preferita rimane quella grigia. 

Se acquisterete uno spilla Totoro la riceverete all'interno di un delizioso packaging ovvero un pacchetto di foglie verdi. 

Ho usato una morbida carta verde su cui ho riprodotto le nervature delle foglie con la mia macchina da cucire. Alla fine ho chiuso il fagottino con un paio di punti di cucito e ho applicato un la simpatica tag. 

A me piacciono tantissimo e hanno già riscosso successo ;)

An unexpected gift

It’s always pleasant to get feedback or pictures from my customers, but I was overwhelmed when I received this package from a loyal belgian customer last week. 

Nele sent me a lovely hand painted brooch of a mother holding her son (or daughter). I love it! 

Besides the brooch I appreciated the handmade packaging and the collage with scraps paper. 

What can I say? I’m always grateful for comments, but for someone to spend so much time creating such a wonderful thing for me I'm very thankful. 

She also hand sewn on the paper a sentence: "Because I think you deserve a brooch too!" Obviously I pinned the brooch on my official bag! Thank You Nele again <3

  

 

E' sempre piacevole ricevere feedback o immagini dai miei clienti, ma la scorsa settimana sono stata colta di sorpresa quando ho ricevuto un pacchetto da una cara cliente belga a cui avevo recentemente spedito un ordine.

Nele mi ha così mandato una spilla dipinta a mano che ritrae una madre che tiene in braccio suo figlio (o figlia). I love it! 

Oltre la spilla ho apprezzato la confezione fatta a mano e il collage con carta scarti. 

Cosa posso dire? Sono sempre grata per l'attenzione che mi date, ma quando qualcuno trascorre così tanto tempo a creare una cosa così meravigliosa per me mi commuovo. 

Sul foglio Nele ha anche cucito a mano una frase: "Perché penso che ti meriti anche tu una una spilla!" [Originale: "Because I think you deserve a brooch too!") Detto fatto e ovviamente ho appuntato la spilla sulla mia borsa ufficiale! Grazie Nele <3

Maggio si apre alla grande per la mia insaziabile voglia di creare borse e cosette in stoffa infatti guardate quante meravigliose stoffe posso ora usare per i miei scopi.

May starts with a bang for my insatiable desire to create little things with fabrics, in fact look through these fabrics I can now use for my purposes.

- Hearts and Dots (variants in cream, pink and white) is a funny cotton with small hearts and polka dots.
